My questions for the guild is:

-Do you often run in to this problem on Gaia dealing with the other side?

-When replying to it, do you scrutinize their souces and/or call them on it when they choose obviously biase and partisan sources?

-Do you think it hinders their argument and does it inspire you to be sure that your sources are a cut above?

Question #1: Yes. There are many times when their source is something that is partisan, a source that is poor and then providing no evidence. I haven't encountered many stories that turn out to be hoaxes, though. (Then again, I haven't posted in the ED-P for a long time. I feel like my arguments aren't getting thorugh and/or I feel that I might not know enough to effectively argue. That, and ED-P is loaded with batshit crazy types.)

Question #2: I have a tendancy to scrutinize their sources, especially if it's a partisan/biased source, such as Prison Planet. (I've gotten that for a "source" numerous times.) It doesn't really seem to matter when I do this, but I do it anyway. (I don't recommend using Wikipedia as a source.)

Question #3: Of course it hinders their argument, because the source of their info usually has nothing to back itself. I try to find sources that aren't partisan, but that's next to impossible. As much as I'd like to use a news source like Fox, that won't fly with anyone on here. (While Fox may not necessarily be "fair," it's definately balanced.) They only accept sources like CNN or ABC. (Those have a liberal bias, anyway.) I try my best when it comes to a source, but I don't always succeed.

#1- Yes ,here and just about anywhere else, but with even the mainstream media seeming to edit the news as "they" see it and no longer just reporting it to the public its very hard for the left to qoute anything that is not partisan.
When they go out of their way to use hard left sources, or pieces that are just op-ed pieces it just makes then look silly.

#2- hmmm, probaly not as often as I should but then no one is more blind then those that choose not to see, to paraphrase...Calling them on it for me just leads to more headaches as then the discussion will mutate into a right-wing bashing fest, well what about Fox news, what about this pundit, and that pundit...Usually i just say, if its on TV, it has become ENTERTAINMENT!!! not much can be taken seriously from the little brain-sucking box that television has become, wink

#3- Yes it makes them look foolish, but in the land of fools only the man who declares " the emperor is wearing no clothes" is taken to task for being a fool, narrow-minded, a pawn of the right, ect.
When I do quote sources I take pains to make them as unbiased as possible, and if I can I make sure they explain stuff with only small words and in small paragraphs as many on the left seem to have short attention spans when exposed to the truth, lol

Hmmm...hope this did not come off as too bitter, but seeing how so many young people have been poisoned by the education systems in multiple countries around the world I am sad. Sad for those of us who see the world differently, and actually sad for the young people because they are so not ready for the world as it is, they are in for a very rude awaking

1: i spend most of my time in m&r where sourcing is generally pointless, and inevitably biased so yeah i supposei have to deal with biased sources

2: always, there are so many douchebag hippies there...it's insufferable to be a christian in that pit of semantics.

3: well it's always nice to make them look stupid....see my signature....

1) Yes, very much.

2) Well... When I absolutly know what I'm talking about.

3) No, definatly not. These people don't know the facts (and probably don't care) I don't see why it would matter for someone to point their arguments faults out.

Yes, it does inspire me.
