I'm going to go to New York for a couple of days in August, and I get to see only ONE show, due to the very limited time that we have. If you haven't already guessed, I'm having a hard time deciding which to see.

The shows I'm interested in most are:

-Sweeney Todd
-Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
-The Threepenny Opera

I'd LOVE to see Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper, but I'd also adore seeing Patti LuPone and the new version of Sweeney. And DRS is possibly my favorite Broadway soundtrack of all time. So...help me out here. Any suggestions?

I have only heard of two of them (which surprises me cause im a crazy drama geek), DRS and Sweeny. Of those I would choose DRS but it is still up to you. I don't know your tastes so really I can't make the decision for you, you have to do that.

I'm hearing bad things about Three Penny Opera. I think you should watch the Tonys and that'll help you decide between Sweeney and Three Penny Opera. Then you take the one you like most out of those two and decide if you want to see that or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Go for Sweeney Todd, it's brilliant. I've been hearing mixed things about Threepenny Opera, but most things said about Sweeney have been praise. And Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in kicking off a national tour on August 6.

OOOH. ONE SHOW? That smarts.

Well. Judging from your list, you have excellent taste. And as much as I would kill to be in your position, I would hate to have to make that decision.

Hnnnnnn....I would choose Sweeney. Patti LuPone =amazing and her Tony performance as Mrs. Lovett was brilliant. As much as I ADORE Cyndi Lauper and Alan Cumming has made a new fan, choose Sweeney. I've just heard so much good about it.

I have not seen it, but a friend from school did. She said it was very good, but if you are a huge fan of the original, you will be sadly let down by the innovative reworking of it. If you are going into it without expectations from the original though, you'd love it.

-Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
I saw it back when it was still in previews. One of my favorites. It's SO funny, but I don't know how funny it will be once the cast changes are made. I can't picture anyone but Norbert as Freddy. He as amazing in that role.

-The Threepenny Opera
I saw this one too. I personally liked it cus I have studied Brecht and his style so I knew what I was getting into, but if you like musicals with big production numbers, this is NOT the thing you want to see. It's gets down and dirty! It goes out of the way to remind you that you are just watching a play. Characters break at the end of every scene, lights are flashed into the audiences eyes, things are done to make you feel uncomfortable. And trust me when I tell you, Cyndi Lauper is PAINFUL to listen to!
