No matter which was Ethan and Hurricane chose, they were bound to find the same thing - the hall dead-ended into a crowded and dusty room. Full of oddly shaped jars and containers piled haphazardly on top of each other and an assortment of small tables. Some larger jars had even been stuff underneath the tables. It was difficult through the accumulated dust to determine what was in most of the jars, but a couple seemed to glow and the beating of fragile wings against glass could be heard if one had sensitive hearing. The floor, also covered in dust, showed no signs of any footsteps in the dim light, which seemed to come from no particular source.

----

"Right." Chandra pushed all the possible meanings in as she said the word, making it a question and a command. Her eyes were drawn to Intus' toes by the Forgotten's own gaze. "Very well." She reached out a pale cold hand to Intus, should he wish to take it. "Let us head towards the moon." As she said it, if Intus had looked up he would have seen a full moon appear against the utter darkness of the sky. It wasn't clear whether Chandra had seen the moon all along or had somehow made it appear. "We should attempt to stay together."

As she spoke to the Forgotten and his poor cold daemon, something rustled out in the snow - leaving little fingerprints as it snuck closer to the pair. Chandra didn't notice it, her attention focused on scanning the horizon.

Mortality practically grinned as he brought the woman to the ground. He extended the cord further, and keeping her feet wrapped, he wriggled up her body and began to wrap around her arms, holding them tightly as well.

Though he didn't have fangs, Mort had an odd temptation to bite her...Instead, he contracted the cord further, squeezing the woman's arms and legs with the cord. Aah, it's best to be safe than sorry, right Maya?

"Thanks Mort. I don't know what I'd do without you." Letting her Daemon continue to squeeze the woman, she looked up at Laertes and his Daemon. "Well, I don't know much about milking a spider...I'm sure I can bring some sort of collecting jar here though."

She pulled her the daggered hand from behind her back, and held it up for the creature to see. "So, what's the best way to get your venom?" she asked the old woman, standing back away from her. "You certainly know the answer, I'm sure." Something came out in Maya that never had before. Perhaps it was the survival instinct kicking in, or the paranoia from her family line, but she pointed the dagger at the spider-woman's face threateningly.

"You don't want to go back inside that room, do you? It would certainly be easy to put you back. And, I quite think you'd find a better meal elsewhere in this house."

Intus saw Chandra reach out her hand to him out of the upper rims of his eyes. His first inclination was to back away, but her intentions were gentle. Intus extended his hand to hers while still looking at his feet. He grasped her hand in his, her fingers were very delicate and a bit chilling for a normal human, but warm compared to the snow. A protected feeling warmed Intus as he stood there in the snow. He wiggled his toes a bit in his little fit of glee. The snow made almost a crunching sound. Crunch crunch crunch.

Crunch crunch crunch. Suddenly Intus realized that the sound was not coming from his own feet; he had stopped moving, and his hair was standing on end. Albert Einstein would have been proud. The sound was coming from slightly behind them; it was soft and almost inaudible, but the sound chilled Intus, even more than the snow did. Chandra was talking about walking towards the moon, but Intus couldn’t remember seeing one on the horizon, he couldn’t remember seeing anything but the snow. Intus opened his mouth to say something to Chandra but stopped short because from one of the small snow mounds he could see a finger extending from its crest. Crunch. Went the finger has it hit the snow again. Intus’ eyes widened as another finger extended over the edge. “ah.” He squeaked and severely tightened his grip. Not really sure what sense to make of the seeming severed hand. The seeming severed hand that was getting closer and closer.

There was a flutter in the breeze in front of the pair, unrelated to the hand, and then across the white ground came a black object from the horizon. As it got closer it gained shape and seemed to be some sort of canine. It's eyes glowed in the dark, as animal eyes tended to do, but held a familiar lavendar hue. Chandra seemed undisturbed and only paused for a moment before she seemed to connect things. The canine came up beside them, a slim black coyote, and nudged it's nose under Intus's elbow.

The hand inched through the snow slightly again, not in an appealing way either (like Thing from the Addams Family) but it was slow and creepy. It's skin was as pale as the snow around it and it crunched ever so slightly.

The coyote caught a sound, sniffed the air, and faced the hand on it's own, growling.

The woman struggled underneath the bind but was quickly realizing that she wasn't going anywhere for the moment.

"Back in the room, my sweet thing? I was there so long, a bit more time is no threat to me." She laughed a dusty wracking laugh that led into a cough. She seemed unaffected, whatever she was, she was just old but obviously very strong.

"You're little stinger is also not very scary my dear.." It was almost hissed. The woman writhed again in her bind. "I know a very easy way for you to get my venom.." She snapped a set of spiderlike jaws. "Just give me a taste! Unless you are going to make yourself a killer right in front of your little friend here..." Her multiple eyes glittered. Getting her venom was not going to be easy.

Maya sighed. Of course this would be difficult. Nothing that the house threw at her would be easy, she could safely assume. Smirking at the old woman, she gave Mort a knowing look. He quickly followed her instruction, retracting the cord and binding her more tightly.

"Must you make things so difficult?" she asked, hands on her hip. She turned to Laertes. "Got any good ideas? Obviously, we're going to have to think of a new technique," she mumbled, hoping he'd have an ingenious idea. Surely the two of them working together would allow them to think of something...

All of Intus’ attention was focused on the severed appendage. The jerky motions it made was sickening and the bits of flesh that hung from the wrist didn’t help to soften the image. Motionless Intus stood in the wake of the dismembered hand. An aura of death and decay seemed to encompass a good 3-foot radius around the hand, an aura that was starting to make Intus sick.

As Inuts’ eyes began to roll back into his head he felt something wet rub against his elbow. His head drooped and rolled a bit from side to side. A soft brush of fur against his legs made him focus on the black coyote beside him. Intus instinctively placed his hand on the neck of the coyote and rubbed the pooch affectionately. His presence made the aura emanating from the hand shrink. Intus stood reflecting on the situation. If he had been there alone the powers of death would have probably overcome him. He stood there almost helpless, small. Tears started forming in his eyes, these feelings were swelling up. He wasn’t even sure what feelings they were but he was powerless to stop them. The coyote turned to face the hand alone.

Now, Intus isn’t the bravest of beings, nor the smartest, nor the most athletic, or creative, or anything really. As normal goes in the world of the fantastic, he is it. But as any creature is pushed to their limits the truly great can arise to these occasions even without special abilities. And those occasions shape their futures and the people they become. Intus’ future needs all the help it can get, and despite his disposition he knows that he must be willing to help himself.

Intus released Chandra’s hand and placed his hand on the coyote’s head. He turned and smiled to the coyote, “I don’t think I can do it alone, but I can’t let you face it alone either.”

Ethans eyes widened seeing all the jars and containers covered in dust. Oh the possibilities. Magic left for a thousand years, trapped fairies or genies, or maybe just neat stuff. He carefully, but enthusiastically started to dust off one of the first jars to peer inside and get a clue as to it's contents.

Hurricanes mind was filled with the same possibilities, but the opposite reaction. "BE CAREFUL! You don't know what could be in those. For all we know an evil spirit or monster could be sealed in one of those jars." Though her mind voice was electric with caution and worry, she didn't move. She might break the jar with the horrible nightmare inside.

"Relax and calm down. I remember what he said about looking through treasure and possibly magical items. Check the seal first then look for any clues. Do not open unless you know it's okay or have no choice." Actually those were the rules for checking treasure without magical aid.

As Ethan set about his self appointed task, Hurricane waited. There wasn't a way to help, so she stationed herself at the doorway. Niether had noticed that the way back was gone, since niether had looked back. They might soon enough, but after dealing with the room. The room that housed so many wonderful and at the same time horrible possibilities. The room that Hurricane now carefully looked over again, this time feeling a twinge of power. "Ethan, I think there is something in here. I can feel it. It's coming from under the jars in the middle of the right wall." Without the ability to sense magic she didn't feel anything from the glowing jars or the contents of some of the other jars.

Ethan stopped and turned to face Hurr. "What kind?"

"I'm not sure. It's flickering. Be careful.

Flickering? Ethan shrugged his shoulders and started carefully moving the jars and other containers out of the way. There was only one way to find out what it could be, and they needed to know what it was, or at least if it is dangerous. Round ones, tall ones, wide and short ones, all in the way had to be moved to find this flickering power.

The coyote seemed to understand and uzzled up into Intus's hand a moment before he went back to growling. He took a step forward, teeth bared, and the creepy hand seemed to wriggle forward as well. It was scary and a little large and seemed like it wanted to take them on.

How a hand takes on an animal, a little boy and a grown woman, who knows.. But this hand, tihs house, was capable of anything.

There was a high pitched giggle from that direction, whether or not it was what Hurricane sensed, who knows. The tables started to shake and all the contents shifted. Whatever sleeps they'd been in, this thing was stirring them. Scratching came from some of them and others seemed to swirl with inner light. The giggle came again and a plain dusty jar on a far table seemed to have a flutter from inside as if a butterfly or... moth.. tried to escape.

Another giggle and a pale figure melted out of the wall. It was a spirit, a shade, and seemed to be a mischevious one. He was hunched and wearing a dusty offices jacket, a ghostly saber hanging by his side and a powdered wig tilted on his head.

"Lost little one... hehehe.. where are you going? What are you looking for? Do you want to play with my friends in their little prisons? Hee hee hee!" He picked up a jar and shook it. Whatever was inside flared red angrily, the light making his plasm-like body glow on it's own.

Both Ethan and Hurricane tensed as the tables and jars started moving. Hurricane told him that something was there, and he thought back, "I know."

Next came the noises. Having their containers jostled provoked various reactions from those contained within, or the sounds of the contents getting shook up. On the look out for the cause the two could hear many noises, but one they barely heared was the sound of wings against glass. Perhaps it would be an item from the list.

Before the thought could go any farther, some kind of spirit dressed like a soldier showed itself. Listening to the questions it asked, both dragon and boy knew to be careful. It took a moment for Ethan to come up with a plan. Hurricane didn't have the aptitude for these kinds of word play. "We were just looking around mister, and I like riddles." Ethan paused for effect. "Are these your jars?" Perhaps he could get this spirit to underestimate him. It was a risk, but so was all the other things he thought of. If he could play long enough they might find the jar with the wing sound. The real questions were if he could play long enough and how to get away.

The snow around the hand withered and turned into something resembling ash. There was no trace of a trail behind it to hint at where the hand may have come from. Intus was electric; he had no idea what such a small object was capable of, but the danger was eminent. Intus closed his eyes and murmured a short prayer, secretly hoping that something of use would come to him. Nothing really came to mind though. His heart dropped a little at his useless gesture.

Intus ran up and dropped to the ground right in front of the severed hand, and thrust out his own to grab a hold of it. It felt like needles were cutting through his flesh as he got closer to the hand. Almost there.

((I'm just gonna move on for the sake of moving things along... xd ))

Seeing that Laertes had no good ideas for how to get the spider's venom, Maya thought back to the books she'd read about snakes and other creepy-crawlies. How did one get antivenom?? She knew you could milk a snake, but what about a spider? Could it be done the same way?

After all, the spider-woman was quite oversized, and it should be easy enough to get her venom. The hard part would be getting her to bite down on something that wasn't Maya.

Suddenly, she got an idea. Pulling the Logrus up in front of her again, she reached through, feeling around for the smooth object. She pictured a laboratory, and as she reached, her hands finally met with a large glass beaker, wide enough to accommodate the spider's jaws. She also pulled through a sheet of thin rubber, and a rather hearty-looking rubber band.

Letting Mort keep her tied up, she instructed him to move up around her neck and head as well, keeping it immobile.

"Okay Mort, this may get interesting. If she makes any sudden movements, be sure to squeeze her tighter, okay? And if necessary, wrap around her head...But only if necessary. I want to keep her mouth open so I can collect some of the venom." She gave him a nod and a grin.

"Roger that. I'll keep ahold of her...She shouldn't squirm too much." He gave a mysterious laugh, and tightened his grip on the spider woman's body, moving up toward her head and neck, wrapping there as well, but not as tightly. He didn't want to choke her--just yet.

Maya quickly assembled her collection jar, pulling the rubber sheet across the top of the beaker, and securing it with a rubber band. She pinged the top of the rubber sheet, making sure it was taught before she approached the spider again.

"Alright, you want a taste?" she asked, holding the jar in one hand while waving at the spider with the other. "Just keep snapping those jaws..."
