They couldn't have let him keep them, i agree with everyone above that he gives them to kagome cuz that makes more sense... it was just cuz i didnt remember if he had them in his body, or not sweatdrop

A response to the question that I think fits completely (test in white, since it includes spoilers - you have been warned). 3nodding
Hightlight here-->Well in the anime, they never actually showed it, but it's implied that he gave them to her. Later in the series Naraku ends up taking all of their jewel shards, so Miroku probably put his shards with Kagome's too (since they had said that Kikyou has taken all their shards, they implied that Miroku's were taken also). Also, they were so caught up in looking for the last shard, just so Naraku couldn't complete the Shikon No Tama. They wouldn't get THAT riled up over it if Miroku had those shards still, because before the Shichinintai Arc, they had NO shards from when Kikyou stole them.
Also, we know that Miroku gave them to Kagome because when Naraku shows the almost completed Jewel, you can clearly tell that there is only a small space left. That was the last shard in Inuyasha's father's skeleton with Housenki. Naraku is always talking about how he's going to steal Kouga's shards. Doesn't anyone notice why he doesn't talk about stealing Miroku's shards? Well, because he doesn't HAVE them. Kouga has two (in his legs), Kagome has one and Naraku has the rest. Which is why he's always attacking those two specifically for the shards and not Miroku. Naraku attacks Miroku just for the pure hell of it.
And for the most obvious reason, they would've said something by now about Miroku's shards if he still possessed them.
And two, Miroku was not using the shards. What would he use them for? To increase the power of his Kazaana which in turn would make his hole even bigger and suck him up? Besides, no matter how perverted Miroku is, he's still a man with a good heart. A human (with no evil intent) really has no purpose for the Shikon Shards. Plus I remember in one episode he hid them in his robes by the shoulder.<---end here
So, there you have it - the answer to the question. Thank you, Ikarikuruu for taking the time to explain it. smile
