If you're talking about movies like Singles Ward, the RM, Brigham City, etc. I don't think they're priestcraft. The fact that they're Mormon movies doesn't neccesarily make them great movies though.
I don't watch them on Sundays, because I don't consider them "church movies" like I do watch on Sundays. However, I find some of them quite entertaining, and a lot of them certainly have better content than most movies out there in the cinemas.

I don't see how they would be considered that. I really like watching them. They are funny and totally blow some stereotypes out of proportion (ie: the RM- the Relief Society and Elder's Quorum lol)

I don't think so. They don't have the message of priestcraft in them, the "worship God and give me money at the same time" feeling. They display exaggerated truths about Mormons and they are meant to be entertaining. In God's Army, there is a part where a guy leaves the Church. They don't try to force anyone into anything.

They aren't evil, although I've seen better movies than LDS - made ones.

If by Mormon movies your friend means things like "Legacy" and the other church-produced movies, I have to say that they're not priestcraft. There's nothing in them that is not offered every day to every one for free, via the missionaries and the scriptures. Judging by how much they sell for, no one is making a fortune from them anyway. It's just the church using new technology to spread the message in ways that today's generation will understand.
As for "The Legend of Johnny Lingo," "Out of Step" and the other Mollywood offerings, they're not priestcraft either. They're just movies with Mormon flavoring.

No way they're priestcraft. Those silly ones are all just Mormon pop culture. It's great for people who live in places where members are sparse, because we get reminded that we aren't alone. I must admit, I am absolutely addicted to Sons of Provo. The soundtrack is the only thing that I listen to anymore in my car!
Sometimes I think they are the funniest things ever, but sometimes the crappy acting and stupid plots are just too much for me.
Just a little off topic: I heard that my late uncle, Tim Hansen, had a bit part in Brigham city. I've never seen it, because, the whole "barely anybody who lives around here is LDS" thing makes it hard to get access to these movies. I think he was a bartender, or something. I might have to check it out.

LemonBooya Sometimes I think they are the funniest things ever, but sometimes the crappy acting and stupid plots are just too much for me. Yeah. Some of them are pretty dumb, but a few are alright. The LDS people who make them are not very good filmmakers. xd rolleyes

Besides, the way to get better is to practice, not to quit because you're not perfect. smile
