Equus bounced forwarad after Phib, expending twice as much energy even if he were going basically the same speed. He veered to dash around a bush, then dove into a deep bed of grass to inch along for a few moments almost on his belly, peering down his long nose through the waving blades to see where the dark elder had gone.
Finally he popped out of the crook of branches of a very low, scrubby tree that really should be considered a bush and started trotting more sedately beside Phib. He glanced sideways at him, then turned thoughtfully forward again. "You know," he commented in a musing tone, "anyone who didn't know us would think we were related. They'd be able to tell I was the younger since I have stars in my eyes!" He yipped a laugh at his own joke, paws tapping a dance of mirth on the ground they traveled.
He didn't mind the alpha's less conversational company. He was good at amusing himself, and never failed to find something to do, though it may end up looking rather silly and be pretty pointless. Phib's tolerant acceptance of his odd, playful ways also set him at ease and made him feel all the more truly welcomed. In the back of his mind he hoped the rest of the pack was like that. He was tired of being viewed as a goofy, foolish child stuck in childish things. Silly they might be, but often there was some small wisdom to be found when he did unusual things and looked at the world from these odd perspectives. Caught in these thoughts, he padded silently and steadily by the Alpha's side.

Equuleus licked his nose and panted. How strange the air tasted! He licked his nose again experimentally. It made him a bit thirsty, but he recalled the alpha's warning not to drink the water they were going to now. He waved his tail slowly behind him as he trotted next to Phib. He glanced at the bigger wolf and decided he shouldn't ask to be shown drinkable water. It would be highly rude after requesting a destination already.
Just then a huge explosion of sound made him stop in his tracks and p***k his ears. He had not only heard it, but had felt it through the earth via his paws. Unaware of the power of the ocean and the force it could smash into rocky cliffs, he scented and listened and watched for the threat he was sure must exist. It would take a gargantuan bear to slam the earth so hard!
((So sorry it's so short!))

Equus made his paws move after the unconcerned elder, though his ears swiveled wildly as he tried to figure out where the giant was located. He could still hear it roaring and stomping the ground... and it seemed they were heading right for it! Just before they broke from the trees, though, it seemed to him that there were many voices, not just one. They were all murmuring and hissing and roaring. He trusted the alpha not to lead him into danger, but he folded his ears uncertainly anyway as he padded out on the rocks.
And there it was. A heaving mass of foaming water. It certainly did look angry, smashing itself on the rocks before them and spitting itself into the air. But it was only water... wasn't it? How could it feel angry?
"Sire, how can water be so very angry?" he asked, slowly raising his voice as he realized he must to be heard. His inclination was to whisper, for fear of drawing the ocean's anger to himself. He stood still and watched the water move unceasingly. He was quite awed, but puzzled and wary that something normally so inatimate could yet be so animated. This was a far cry from the laughing and babbling stream he'd grown up near.

His original shock at the state of this water was wearing off, and his curious nature was kicking in again. He stepped closer to the heaving mass of wet, ears pricked and nose quivering. He heeded the elder's words, though.
"Thank you, I will remember that." He enjoyed splashing about in water, but swimming he wasn't so sure about. He wasn't entirely sure if he knew how to swim, since the largest body of water near his family's den had been a stream.
He swung his head back and forth, looking up and down the coast. He actually couldn't see much. The rocks and the beach did not follow any sort of predictable path, so it ducked beyond his sight rather quickly. He lifted a paw to start exploring and then stopped. He shouldn't be rude to this alpha!
"Thank you again for your welcoming me, sire." He bowed, both paws stretched in front of him, though his tongue lolled out happily. "I think I would like to go explore this new area. It is most intriguing." He looked again up the coast, clearly pulled. "With your permission that is." He looked back to Phib, tail waving.

"Of course." Phib rumbled, nodding his head. "If you have any troubles, I don't doubt someone will find you." Probably a grey wolf, but he kept that to himself. He'd make it public soon. He hated secrets like that.
Seems like a nice boy. A gentle voice fluttered against his head. Gruffly, Phib chuckled and shook it off.
