Ok...I stole books from my class last year. The books were about japan and Japanese calligraphy. Here are the reasons why:

- They were there gathering dust, no one was using them. They had tons of copies of the same books.

- I like Japan and Japanese culture a lot

- I didnt know what I was doing

Till now I have realized what I have done. I still have these books, I cannot give them back because:

- I do not know where the books are kept

-Classrooms are locked and they are big so I am in easy sight and there are cameras almost everywhere.

- If i give them back in person, i can be expelled from the center (Japanese program at my chool) and I can be expelled from my school too.

- and because the thought of not wanting to give them back >_<"

I still have these books now, and to be honest. I am actually afraid of my karmic consequences and feel bad for it..even if they were just books *sigh*

Now those books in my sheld are reminders of my action that I have stole. At the time I did not practice Buddhism, but I dont think it matters wether one steals and is Buddhist or not.

Anyone have advice?

I feel so bad now. crying

Hmm... this would be a good chance practice a bit of mindfulness. Though it's never good to steal, if it does happen, it would be wise to explore the feelings it caused you. You shouldn't force it, though try to focus on your good intentions and act based on those.

These suggestions are rather passive... so definitely explore other options.
One, perhaps mail the books back anonymously. Or two, keep the books as a reminder until you cross paths with a chance to donate them to charity or person.

My two of cents anyway.. sweatdrop

The ego is very good at rationalizing things so it feels better about its actions.

That shouldn't be an issue. Just because there were tons of copies gathering dust doesn't mean that someone did not have a purpose for them, or that they weren't going to be used in the near future.

You should have asked.

Quote:
- I didnt know what I was doing
No, you did. Anybody will see through that as trying to rationalize your actions and try and take the easy way out.

You can find out.

Almost, as if it were a sign...

And that would be the karmic consequence from you diverting from the path.

The choices we make affect the rest of our lives, big and small.

Do you know how a good monkey trap works?

A dangerous man is one that has never done anything wrong. A trustworthy man is one that admits his faults as soon as he sees them, and rights his wrongs as best he can.

There's nothing to feel bad about.

There was ego.

Ego acted.

Ego accumlates Karma.

Separate from the ego, and the karma will dissolve from you.
