hmm...though i'm sure you've already done your painting (which you should post when the gallery is back up!), i figure i'll put in my two cents on watercolor anyway.
for me, watercolor has always been a scary medium because of the permanence of it. usually, with painting, my motto is "oh well, i can just paint over it" not so with watercolor; it turns gross and...gross. But recently, i got a wild hair and decided to bring out my watercolors (i have a set of brick watercolors) and try to paint something. i think it turned out really well, to be honest. i've tried a little with watercolor pencils, but i didn't like it; it just doesnt have the same freedom and flow to me. also, if you mess up, you can use a wet paper towel or sponge to lift the paint off (so cool).

so, in closing, my vote is paints. I would personally reccomend the solid ones rather than the tube ones; it's easy to get too much paint with tubes and then you have to find something to do with it and its just a hassle, i think.

I agree with you about being able to paint over things. You can't with watercolour and it's one of the reasons I don't like it. I just don't like the looseness of it. I like painting loose but that's TOO loose for me.

For some reason it's impossible for me to use watercolor pencils. It always looks wrong.

I can use color pencils, just not watercolor ones. Although in a lot of my art I use watercolor paints.

I think that if you like painting with watercolours you wouldn't be too keen on pencils because they aren't as loose. I don't like the paints but I like the pencils, for the very reason that I have more control with them.

I think watercolor painting is better, especially for landscapes, but I've never "officially" used a watercolor pencil so I'm a bit biased about that. sweatdrop
