Lang: You think in some twisted way, that Akagi wanted Rei to be free from that life of replacement?

Lang: It relieved her conscience by killing rei

Lang: But like... she gave the REAL Rei an irreplaceable life

Lang: Making her human

Kaji: i think she was pissed at Gendo for using her, and wanted to kill Rei due only to spite

Kaji: although

Kaji: thinking on it

Kaji: it could almost make sense

Lang: But she didnt kill the last Rei

Lang: She gave that Rei humanity.

Lang: That was her life.

Lang: That was her gift. She became human after that act

Kaji: wait

Kaji: that makes perfect sense

Lang: biggrin

Kaji: Rei's soul was divided between all of them

Kaji: and since the other were dead

Lang: And in killing the rest. She was an individual.

Kaji: she was able to have singular thought

yeah....it does make sense. Wow, i never thought about it that way. But i dont think ritsuko did it for rei as much as for how she hated gendo, and perhaps even her mother. Gendo didnt want rei to have singular thought...he definitely just needed rei as a tool....*sadly...poor gendo*....so its probably a mixture of the two....

Well, she didn't want to BE like her mother. She didnt want to kill Rei for her own selfish ways, or be Gendo's tool any longer.
Hence why she tried to self destruct the Magi+Nerv in EOE.

If you look at Ritsuko's mind in the sense of the Magi, she was able to betray 'her man', even when Casper (The 'woman' Aspect of Naoko) was not able to.
Ritsuko was prepared to do that so that he wouldn't succeed with his madness.

If she was willing to go that far to stray from the same path that her mother took, I'm quite sure that somewhere deep down, she destroyed the dummy plug so that Rei was NOT replacable. If anything, I think she wanted Rei to start defying Gendo on her own.
And really, given enough time, I'm positive that she would have... but then EOE got here first and it took her until then to realize....

Also, If Ritsuko REALLY hated Rei and wanted her dead, she'd have killed Rei III as well as the dummy plug.
But she left Ayanami alive. And that was the Rei that was starting to "feel" in a sense.
The lonely, relationship challenged, cat owning Ritsuko completely out-womaned her mother.
I thought that was actually quite big of her.

....

Upon reading that over, it seems that I've somehow become 'Pro-Ritsuko'.

EW WTF!?

Yeah....know i remember, thats why she had said she had hated Caspar, her womanself when she had taken care of the 11th angel. I remember her saying that she respected her as a scientist...but i forgot what she said about her mother, self. I think she didnt understand her as a mother...something about her not wanting to have kids at all....Which is now suprising...considering she saved rei. Now it makes sense.....Caspar ended up saving Nerv, so Ritsuko did not want to become that, which is why she ended up betraying nerv, as well as gendo...

And yeah.....i supposed anyone that betrays gendo is a friend in your books xp

Well, not exactly lol.
The fact that she had the guts to do that, when even her mother didnt, showed a real ... courage aspect.
And so I can respect that, when someone makes a point to break out of the habit and think for themselves. wink

An' now you know why I'm a Ritsuko fan ninja I loved how she stood up to Gendo when no one else had the courage to. I never thought about that Rei thing, I had a few theories that she just wanted to ease her concious by getting rid of some work she had helped in but that other idea makes more sense...

I still think Ritsuko just needed someone to love her and not use her like Gendo did. Or turn into a bit of an enemy like Misato did. Too bad she didn't notice Maya.
