"Yeah, if you want I could come with you." Ivy smiled. It was nice having a friend.

Ivy paused, realising what he meant. "Well, if your place isn't too far, I -think- I should be okay..." She looked down. "Or I could go with you part of the way..." She pulled her jacket towards her and started forcing her arms through.

"Alright, cool," he said while heading over to the door. He went through the arduous process of opening the door with his foot. He was rather embarrassed about this...but he did it anyway if only to show Ivy that it was possible to live like this.

Ivy smiled; she was encouraged, but nervous. Wobbling to the door, she took a step outside, the breeze tousling her long bangs. "Lead the way, buddy!" She said to Tommy. Hopefully it was a short walk.

Actually, it was only a few duplexes down...his own being duplex number 54. "Sure thing," he said as he crutched his way out of the duplex and out into the night air. Oh God did that feel good...he loved the feeling of the cool breeze on his skin. With a slight grin, he crutched on down toward his own duplex...waiting up for Ivy if she ever fell behind.

Ivy followed, trying to stay close to Tommy. She felt safer with him, for some reason. Maybe it was just because he was the first person she'd really talked to in so long.

In any case, soon they were at his duplex, number 54. Ivy had only fallen twice.

She turned to Tommy. "So...do they all look pretty much the same, or is it just me?"

Tommy paused at his duplex and looked up the stairs towards his door. He hated going up these stairs...but...well, them's the breaks. With a grunt, he began the ascention to the top. From there he grinned and looked down at Ivy, "Heh...yeah, I hear ya. I feel like I'm in a damn suburban neighborhood...yaknow...except without the fur and teeth thing."

"But yeah, the've got some other ones out there...aquatic duplexes...and I've even seen ones that're raised up on stilts."

"Anyway, gimmie a sec, I'll be out in a jiffy," he said as he opened his door and crutched himself inside. It didn't take long for him to locate the walker...since his duplex was pretty much empty besides a desk and a pullup bar.

It took him a considerably longer time to navigate the walker back down the stairs...but he eventually was able to.

"Here ya go," he said with a smile.

Ivy tried out the walker, leaning on it and shuffling across the ground. She slowly walked in a circle and laughed.

"Hey, this helps a lot!" Ivy laughed. The walker encouraged her, and she felt invogorated. "I think-I think I'm gonna go on a walk tomorrow. Yeah!" She grinned at the part-bat, part human. "Thank you...thank youso much."

Tommy laughed and switched his weight from wing/hand to wing/hand, glad that he could help out Ivy. "That's the spirit!" he said to Ivy, still grinning, "I tell ya, a person'd go batty if they don't get out every once in a while. Just look at me." He laughed at his own terrible pun. "But really...it was nothing. I don't need it much anymore...thing was just collecting dust."

Ivy experimented some more with the walker, feeling a childlike joy at just being able to move around. "Thank you so, so much!" she said again.

Ivy shuffled to Tommy and gave huim a one-armed hug. She wasn't sure, but she had a feeling that they would be great friends.

Tommy couldn't help but blush slightly as she hugged him. It's been a long time...he grinned. "Well...I'm just glad I was able to help you out, is all," he said happily.

Ivy grinned and started heading out the door with the walker.

"Well...thanks again! I hope we see a lot more of each other." Ah, it was nice having a friend.

"Yeah, no worries...I'll seeya around, alright?" He grinned and watched her walk off.

The first thing that would strike Ivy, aside from the splitting headache when she wakes next... would be the unfamiliar location. It's not her duplex.... aside from the fact that all of her things seem to be there. Half of the duplex looks completely normal. There is the desk, the couch, the door, and even a door to a restroom. But then, the floor slopes away- a spongy material - into what appears to be an indoor pool.

There is a second "floor" beneath the water, another room. There is not much down there except for another spongy bed... and a door out to the rest of the lake. The walls are a translucent plastic-like substance...but there are opaque blinds that can be drawn down for privacy.

Then.... the pain. It seems to radiate from a sore, itchy spot on her arm and spreads over her... All of her skin begins to become the rubbery moddled coloring that had previously only coated her tail. Her legs shrink even further, all except for the toes which spread wider and longer, becoming more finlike. Her tail stretches even a little bit longer.

Meanwhile, the sail down her back lengthens, becomes erectable, a muscle at the base of the spines that allow her to raise and lower the sail at her whim.

Then... her face. Her nose and mouth begin to ache, a pressure building as finally it pushes forward in a crack of bone and muscle becoming a short muzzle.
