(I knew this was going to get lost in the conversations of DYBIM, so I wanted a place for it to stay)
Do you believe in Mods?
I do. I love the Mods. With all my heart.
For one year, I have tried to not only believe in mods, but live up to the standards of discussion that were held by the moderators of the M&R forum of Extended Discussion.
Through it all, there have been highs and lows. There is still a belief in fairy wings that has come true for several people. Some of us dedicated their efforts to the point that they, in time, became moderators. These people showed us that there was a higher standard; something we could all aspire to be.
This coming year is going to be more challenging than the last. There are going to be an exponential number of people participating in this thread, and a wide variety of upcoming discussion topics. In spain, a fatwa was declared on terrorism and intolerance. In Rome and in Florida, millions of people sit and wait for specific individuals to die and wonder what it means for all of us. There will be new clashes of ideology from all sides.
What does it mean for us? It means that we, whether or not we're 'modists', by being the active posters within M&R have to set the standard for everyone else. We need to encourage new folk and new opinions, but at the same time hold true to rigorous discipline of thought. If we treat people as intelligent, and argue intelligently, not only will we resoundly defeat ignorance, but at the same time help elevate those who may have something to say, but have yet to find the tools to say it effectively.
We're not here exclusively for gold or treats. We're here because our minds are hungry and our souls are thirsty. We're here because we yearn for companionship and communication that is beyond the standard fare. We're here because we care, and with the aid of the Mods, we can make this place beautiful.
Do you believe in Mods? I hope you do. We have proven that we can all be as mods, and as much as I believe in mods, I also believe in us. And I believe in you.
Romuel
On the first year of 'Do You Believe In Mods?'

heart heart heart
Thank you, Romuel, for giving us a place to relax and enjoy ourselves with people with a common interest, a place that opened us up to new thoughts, and a place to call our little home with a wonderful family.

Since my reply probably got lost in DYB as well...
*claps*
We wouldn't be here without you, Rommy. I can't speak for the other two, but I wouldn't have been chosen as a Mod if it wasn't for the Church. So thank you. Here's to many more anniversaries and many new modists.

Wow, a year? That is indeed something to celebrate. 3nodding And you put it so eloquently. My mom wonders why I am addicted to this site, but then again, she's never spent a day in my high school. sweatdrop

It is always a comfort to my soul to come here and bask in the wise, gentle, and loving words of our Missy Romuel Lady. I still remember the first user to lead me to this place, and now look at him! A Mod! Though I am sure he is a good one that uses his powers wisely and helps people see the light of intelligence for he has had the guidence of his good Modist friends and much time to fully experience the boards.
I say this, as long as there is a single Modist on Gaia, there is hope for us all. heart
