You know I never did really understand what exactly a "golden disc" was, besides a plot device, and why it would be worth anything to anyone...What does that thing even DO!?

From my understanding it reveals the past or in their case the "future" to come. Knowing that they can change their present to affect the future. I believe that was the purpose of the discs as per the show itself. If my memories serve me correctly, the disc was destroyed and Megs had a fragment which he was able to play and locate the mountain in the distance. As the disc played the mountain had a large chip on its side which did not match. By the end of the episode the mountain blew up and end up having the chip on its side which was predetermined by the disc as the disc reveal a past that to them is the present.

Right scene, wrong exposition. The mountain was whole when Megatron played the disc, and this was BEFORE Dinobot shattered it with his dying blow. However, he commanded Rampage (who was not happy at all about being commanded) to blast the mountain. He did so, and as the rubble from the mountain came to rest, the image he was playing in the disc showed the new mountain, or rather, new-hole-in-the-ground, where the original mountain was. The last time THAT particular golden disc comes into play is when Megatron uses the shard to play back G1 Megatron's message for Ravage, so as to convince the bipedal kitty that he was on the level. Basically using the information that we inscribed on the original golden disc from the Voyager Space Probe against us. Devious. Yyyeeeeeessss.

...What's necro'ing ?I thought the other hole blowing act was to prove that the disc information will change along with the timeline as it unfolds hence why the new hole presented itself in the disc.

...What's necro'ing ?I thought the other hole blowing act was to prove that the disc information will change along with the timeline as it unfolds hence why the new hole presented itself in the disc. No, he only tested out his theory in the episode "Code of Hero", and proving his theory gave birth to the idea of leading the Predacons to the valley where (barring religious differences, lol) the ancestors of the first Humans were supposed to emerge. Why that was inscribed on the disk, I do not know, but... He solidly believed if it weren't for Human interference, that the Decepticons would have won the great war, and the Predacons would be the masters, not the dependants. But Dinobot beat the disc out of him with an improvised hammer, and using the last of his energy, blasted that thing into confetti. Megatron only discovered the time records on the Golden Disc in that episode. The same episode that the disc was shattered. Yyyeeessss.... Though, as I said, he saved a shard of it, but the shard didn't come into play until Ravage showed up in his Transwarp ship.
