I know that much. That's why I only have friends I know on my list. Still, no need to be THAT paranoid.

Pros? Well over a hundred million users, more than any other website, so the networking possibilities are enormous. The office is staffed 24-7, even the g33k department, so if, oh... a phisher's causing havoc, say, or a server's crashed... give it a couple minutes, they're already working on it (also a good point in that law enforcement can call for emergency information anytime, so a kidnapping or runaway case that might have a MySpace connection doesn't have to wait until business hours). And the different kinds of profiles -- if you're into music, bands have a different kind of profile than individuals; they can upload songs that you can listen to or (if they've set the option so) download, display their schedules, list their members and influences, etc. And if you like a song, you can select it to display and play on
your profile. And there's tons of bands on there -- music was the start of MySpace, actually (yes, Tom had a band)... but there's also comedians, authors... I don't remember what all. The networking
is extremely varied and versatile, in all honesty.
Cons? Spam, spam, and more spam. Assholes and jerk-offs -- just like in real life. MySpace whores for whom life is one big popularity contest and who're about as emotionally deep as a wading pool, and the endless drama they splash all over the internets. And my pet peeve, the profile customizability is a
b***h. Whoever wrote the parent code for profiles there should be slapped. Repeatedly. Because they've never heard of layering, floating, or selectors.
evil But more noticable is probably the frequent "Sorry! A technical error has occurred" messages and slow load times (which would speed up if the scripting were written more efficiently... *stabstab*) that make browsing on anything but the most pimped-out PC a frustrating experience.
Personally? The individuals I detest the most are on MySpace, and the ones I
want to know are on Gaia and/or LiveJournal. I deleted my active account not long ago. I still have a secondary one, but it's locked down to the nth -- no add requests, and the addy I used for it is a hidden one; no messages, no comments... MySpace can actually verify your identity, which involves some back-and-forth with the customer care staff, but once you're verified, any other profile that pops up with your name or photo you can report and have it deleted immediately -- or locked while you press charges, even. ^^
