I have noticed that many people who love The Phantom of the Opera don't know the name of the real Opera house. I known people who think its the one in Sdeny. Opera Garnier people! That gets on my nerves. A girl in one of my classes was all sad cus I showed her a picture of it and she told me "I'm so going there!!!!!" Then I told her that it was in Paris and she was all sad! She didn't know that! I don't like the version when it is in London in Her Majistey's Theater!

Well, I think that most people know that it's in Paris. It says so in the movie, and almost all Phantom fans have seen that. I think that it said that in the plays as well, but I could be wrong.

Actually it was called the Paris Opera House until they built a second one in Paris, only after they built that one did they decide to call it the Opera Garnier. And the REAL name of it is Palais Garnier. See my topic here.

Yes, but it really doesn't bother me. I like to think of it as the Paris Opera House. Simple.

Yes, thank you, Isolde.
It's real name is the Palais Garnier. The Paris Opera House works, too, since I imagine the Palais Garnier still gets the title by seniority, but there is another opera house in Paris that now houses the Paris Opera. Much uglier, alas, but that is where one goes for opera in Paris, now~

My friend went there. He brought me back postcards and a coin. I will go thee one day. I'll be in England for a year when I finish highschool (2 more years!). You can fly to Paris for about 12 pounds.

Yes, the Paris Opera House isn't a specific building. It's just title for whatever theatre currently houses the Opéra National de Paris. Originally that was the Théâtre de la Porte-St-Martin, followed by the Théâtre Montansier, the first Salle Favart, the Théâtre Louvois, and Le Peletier, until it was transferred to the Palais Garnier in the 1875. Although they still occasionally do performances at the Garnier, the current Paris Opera House is the Opéra Bastille. However, because it's the most famous, a lot of people have it stuck in their heads that the Palais is the Paris Opera.
.... xD; I love working in a bookstore. *dives into a pile of the history books*
So actually, the theatre in the ALW show isn't necessarily the Palais. If you're to go by the movie it would have to be Le Peletier, since the Palais wasn't even built yet in 1870.

fuokohopin Yes, thank you, Isolde. It's real name is the Palais Garnier. The Paris Opera House works, too, since I imagine the Palais Garnier still gets the title by seniority, but there is another opera house in Paris that now houses the Paris Opera. Much uglier, alas, but that is where one goes for opera in Paris, now~ Gosh, yes. The Opéra Bastille is reeeeeally ugly. I went there for an opera once. It isn't that bad on the inside. The Palais Garnier still has a few operas, but mostly ballets. And they're all WAY modern. Iphigénie en Tauride took place in a bathroom. burning_eyes PhantomoftheFox So actually, the theatre in the ALW show isn't necessarily the Palais. If you're to go by the movie it would have to be Le Peletier, since the Palais wasn't even built yet in 1870. That would actually be pretty logical. It did burn down.
