Machine Gun Vs. KatanaAnd people say that Katana are over rated! Well, after taking on 7 .30 cal bullets (Those are the kind that knock people down, and are "humane because they kill so quickly). It slices 6 of them, finally breaking at the 7th (still splitting that one). And those are burly bullets, like I said. Just something to think about. biggrin

The weapon means nothing if it's used in the wrong hands. Guns aren't necessarily tougher or better, they're simply the most 'user-friendly' weapon...you don't have to know much about a gun to kill someone with it. Aim and fire. Firing with accuracy is a different story, but in the case of a machine gun, it's not meant to be fired with accuracy. It's meant to mow down large groups of enemies.
By the way, the site said those were .50 cal bullets, not .30 cal. .50 caliber bullets don't just knock people down, they put sizable holes in people. It's pretty impressive the katana withstood that kind of onslaught as long as it did, but not even the most talented swordsman on the planet would be able to survive an encounter with a .50 caliber machine gun on open ground with only a katana to protect themselves. That's too many bullets, too fast.

Just saw this in the English Trivia show? o.o I saw this in Japanese like.. months ago. It's in the chatterbox of Vanguardian Axis.
I think I'll just quote from there.Posted: Fri Jan 21, 2005 11:16 pm Locke Trufeld @.@ It may be odd for someone like me, who's the head of this RP with all these sci-fi wars going on, but.. @_@ Have people noticed what kind of weapons the US is coming with? Jeeze, this Browning M2 Machine Gun, uses such huge bullets and shoots them at 894 m per second or something, and nearly whatever it hits, it obliterates them.
I was just watching this Japanese Trivia show, and they had these questions like..
If a Katana ( Japanese sword ), were to go against a pistol, which would win? For this, they had a Katana set so that it can stay standing up, even being hit by a bullet. For this round, the Katana clearly split the pistol bullets, thus the Katana winning.
Then, they came up with a Katana VS Water Cutter, those technology tools, used to cut many things with small amount of water, shooting through the object you want to cut, at mach 2 speed. It's used to cut many types of metals, such as knives, even by it's blade. It'll split knives clearly in two, from the blade and to the end, vertically, when the knife is standing vertically as well.
They did the same with the Katana and the Water Cutter, and the Katana once again prevailed, cutting the water rushing at it's blade at mach 2.
Finally, the Katana VS Browning M2 Machine Gun. Being Japanese myself, and personally like blades and stuff, not that I'm a dangerous being or anything.. o_o' it was kind of sad watching the katana valiantly standing at US's more recent, horribly insane, powerful machine gun used to take out military helicoptors, while being able to withstand the first 6, abnormally huge, monster bullets, splitting them as they chip away at the beautiful blade..

It all sounds rather depressing the way Locke put it. sweatdrop
I don't wanna see American guns chipping away at something like a Katana either. sad And the sensei-person looked rather put-out after the sword was destroyed...and they made such a big deal out of it too, like fifty action slow-mo replays of the damn weapon being destroyed. They didn't do that with the first movie of the bullet being cut in half, so why bother doing it now, and for the Japanese weapons? (Albiet they did show a slow-motion capture for each of the seven bullets.) It's like trying to show supremacy using bigger and better ammo.
'Sides, why in the first movie (9mm) did they fire one bullet, but in this they fired almost a hole belt? O_o;
And that "OMGBADGUYSWINN!!!!!111!22one" over-dramatical music they played once the katana broke was pretty pathetic, too. This wasn't Battle Royale, this was some petty 'Which lasts longer?' test.
