Aiko_589 heart Sorry i do not know american measuring!
heart あつやき卵 (atsuyaki tamago)
heart This is not my most interesting food recipe, but to have an Obento you must have this in it.they are a type of square thick omlette, it is sweet and cold. you will enjoy it i hope!
材料
(stuff to make food, i dont know in english) heart 80ML dashi heart 6 egg heart 80 ML(65g) sugar heart 350ML shoyu heart 5 ML sake heart 3ML salt heart vegetable oil
heart tamago yaki nabe (square pan) heart chopstick
heart Put egg and oil to side for now. now mix dashi, sugar, shoyu, sake, and salt in small pan and mae it hot until everything looks mixed into each other and the same. then let it cool(just take of heat source and put somewhere same temperature as house, should be 21 degree celcius,気温が20度) . mix in egg to to the mixture, but stir so not too much oxygen get in, it is supposed to be thick. now get out the tamago yaki nabe. turn on heat source and put on pan oil to prevent sticking(when the pan is ready).Put inot to pan 80ml of egg mixture and shake to make sure it covers whole surface of pan. When top of egg look set and around it it look dry, use a chopsticks to roll omlette to one side of pan.put in more oil. put in another 80ml of egg mixture and shake and cover bottom of pan,and let egg cook like mentioned. when it done this time rolling cooked egg over the new cook egg. Cook for little more, then take out and put in fridge until it is very cold. then for serving (to other people, or in obento) put side by side and put garnish on top. heart 食べようね You know what? I always eat this first everytime I eat a bento! My friend make fun off me because I call it "the Japanese omelette". I'm looking forward trying this recipe. whee So, I would translate "Shoyu" with soy sauce (if you go to a Japanese supermarket, make sure to read "shoyu" on the sauce however! there are many sauces that look exactly the same >.<) should we use sake for cooking or normal sake? which is better? Also, I don't know what is "dashi" (i should be ashamed! after living here for over one month already!). I'll look it up on a dictionary. Thank you heart

Hermonie Urameshi [choco.banana] Aiko_589 i think i am quite a good cook, sadly i cannot express all my recipes at english crying you should try! I bet you know some typical recipe from the area you come from wink fortunately in Paris, where I originally live, we have "Japan town". there are many Japanese stores and supermarket, so I can find most of the ingredients mentioned in this thread. However it would be nice to provide a easy substitute to some hard-to-find ingredients (tip for the next recipe) (i don't understand why, every time i want to type "recipe" i end up typing receipt xp ) You're lucky there's anything in your Japantown. When we went to San Fransisco there was almost nothing for Japantown. So we ended up going to Chinatown more which I think was the best place. I haven't checked for a Japantown in Chicago, but I don't think there is one. crying In Canada, I know there are quite a few Japan towns. Try looking up on internet, maybe they are not in big cities! There should be some...

I love japanese food but I'm also a vegan, and since a lot of it contains fish and other things I can't eat, it's hard to find things that I can X_X but I love what I can eat ^_^

Though, it's a bit difficult for me to make it because I don't own a square pan (yet) and I have to be careful if I want it to keep a square shape. Because of the recipe I have, I use mirin insted of sake. Is the difference very noticeable? From what I understand the two are similar in nature.
