So I was at the mall today to blow some money at Suncoast because they were nice and gave me coupons for my birthday. Once there I realized I was totally disoriented and overwhelmed from all the people walking around. It really wasn't that bad compared to most weekends or holidays but it was still an assload of people there. I kept telling my friend I wasn't used to all those people in one spot. Kind of odd since I go to a school where it's even more crowded but I feel just fine with them. Probably because I know most of them are only going to get futures in the fast food industry. Or maybe because most of them know I'm not a people person, I don't know. But for some reason malls just scare me and I think it has to do with the fact that 1) There's so many people and 2) All of the cool stores are gotten rid of to make way for new Abercrombie & Fitch or Starbucks stores. They got rid of my favorite childhood hangout - The Nature of Things recently. I went there to get all my cool science stuff.

Has anyone else felt totally uncomfortable upon entering a mall?

You know... Only once in my life have I ever been in an American mall. And that's when I was in America... October '00. Good times, had by all. My dad got new shoes, I got a nice game for m' gameboy at a lower price than I would have at home (God bless the low priced electronics of America), and my mum... wandered around and got lost somewhere.

And in my short time there, I thought exactly the same thing... Way too many people. Plus, the place was the fuggin' size of my town. Seriously. o_O

In any case, it's very co-incidental that you mention not being good in crowds... I had a nasty experience with that a little earlier today doing... ::shudder:: grocery shopping. Too big a crowd... And generally, ever since good ol' August '98, I've never been one for crowds. I'm-a not saying why, though.
When I come home from being in a crowd like that, and when I'm in a crowd like that... Let's just say my mood turns to "grumpy".

And that's all I can think of to say that's remotely on subject. So... ha! scream

I love going to malls. It's not really about the spending money, but the browsings.

To me, Malls are more like museums and less like shopping places. I can actually walk into a mall and leave without spending any money.

Stores on my list of must-goes:

- EB, GameStop, any general video game store.
- Waldenbooks and any general book store.
- Enchantments and New Age Creations, Spiritual/pagan/hippie stores, they're fun to look in
- Stores that sell local merchandise like Thunder Bay. This store sells Buffalo NY stuff
- Sciency stores. Too bad my malls don't have any anymore.
- Steve & Barry's. They have amazingly cheap, good quality clothes. EVERYTHING is less than 10 bucks, including non-faded jeans, College hooded pullovers, gloves, hats, shoes, accessories, backpaks. It is the college dormie's dream clothing store. All of the merchandise is location based.
- Build A Bear workshop. I'm a sucker for plushies.
- The Body Shop. It's the only Bath & Makeup store I go to, because everything smells so yummy there. Today I smell like milk.
- Home & Cooking stores like Linens & Things. If Alton Brown shops there it's good enough for me.
- Godiva Chocolates. It's friggin worth it.

The only thing about malls that scare me are the prep stores and the wandering goths who hover around Hot Topic.

I don't. Because I barely go into malls.

I love the bookstores except they're getting taken over by Starbucks which in turn seems to attract the preppy people from all the Abercrombie & Fitch stores littered through the mall. The only places I ever go to in malls now are suncoast because they give me giftcards when I spend money there. Also, the book stores because books are like crack for me. The only time I'd go to Hot Topic would be to get Sonic shirts but since for some reason that store is incredibly hot and humid, I'll probably just order them off the store's site. I used to go to the game stores but they all suck in these parts now so I do my game shopping at Best Buy now. Strangely I don't mind Best Buy at all, probably because I know most of the people there tend to be much less frightening. My good friend Steve says I'm like Randal in the sense that I don't like people but I like gatherings. xd

Starbucks coffee sucks.

The best place to get expensive coffee is the local coffee shops, since they're the ones who are actually trying to make good coffee. I remember getting the most divine mochas at a place called Spot Coffee in Buffalo. Loaded with whipped cream and chocolate, in a huge cup, and the shop had tons of fluffy mismatched sofas to relax in.

When it comes to cheap coffee, Tim Hortons is the way to go. Especially because you can match it with a box of Timbits and then roll up the rim to win. Tim Horton was a hockey player who once played for the Buffalo Sabres, so you gotta support a local hero smile
