He nodded and likely would've replied had not the smoke wafting from Alec's cigarette provoked a coughing fit. Grimacing, he waved the smoke away, coughing lightly until his lungs cleared of the unwelcome intrusion, and settled for simply nodding in response. Lovely. A crazed tiger man. Exactly what he wanted to hear about.
"Right, well," he finally choked out, rising to his feet and breathing deeply. "I'm goin' to, ah, 'ead that way, then. Thanks for..clearin' things up, Alec."

Unlike other smokers, Alec glanced over as Thom started coughing and immediately felt guilty. Most of the time he didn't even think about other peoples' preferences and the like before doing what he wanted. THe funny thing was that before he came to the island, he probably wouldn't have looked twice at someone objecting to his smoking. "Sorreh mate." He mumbled and lowered the arm that held the cigarette, trying to keep the smoke out of his face in vain. "'kay, a'll see ye 'round. 'Am in numbeh forteh-woon if ye need me. Take i' easeh." He'd probably feel worse later for being the one to have to break the bad news but for now the teen was content to be of use.

"S'alright," Thom assured him, though the gesture did serve to cheer the man, however slightly. "Fourty one," he repeated, storing the number away if his memory, then, still nodding weakly to himself, started out of the cafeteria, leaving his unfinished meal on the table. "You need anythin', I'm in fourty five." Not that he would be much help at present, he reasoned, grimacing. Pushing open the door, he stepped out into the growing dusk and started in the direction Alec had pointed him.

Alec nodded and gave a short wave as Thom left, watching him until the door to the caf swung shut. The room seemed a lot more empty and cold than usual. Glancing over and not spotting the cafeteria lady around, the teen sat all the way back in his chair, propping his teetering form with a leg against the table. He stared at the ceiling with a cynical smile, taking another drag of his cig.
Without another word, he fixed himself a tray of food to take back to his room for satiating his growing appetite and left.
