I saw this topic on the FF forum as well, so I figured I'd say the same thing here since I like my theory:
I think Gogo's most likely a mystery character designed to be a topic of discussion. Or perhaps, given his ability to mimic any skill, he is an amalgam of all the spirits of heroes who have passed into the next world. They left a part of their spirit behind, and in times of dire need; heroes of virtue will find Gogo, ready and willing to help. This would also explain why it's in more than one Final Fantasy game, and why it can equip no female only items, but can equip the Memento Ring.

I think Gogo is just some guy with the ability to mimic anyone. I only say this because final fantasy games are not supposed to connect, because if they did I would say he is from FF5, because there is a Gogo in FF5 who teaches you the mimic ability and he is dressed in all kinda of crazy rags. I still want to know where everyone came up with this asumption that the falcon crashed on triangle island, which is always the main basis for those ridiculous assumptions that gogo is daryll. If I remember correctly, all Setzer says is that the wreck of the falcon was found a year later in north. Or somthing like that.

The only possible answer I can see that Gogo would be is Emperor Gesthal. But wait? Didn't Gesthal fall off of the floating contenient and die from the fall? is probably the question I'll most likely get. Yes, he fell, I see that, but does he die, the answer is unknown. You would also have to consider the immense power he had as well, using Fire 3, Flare and Merton. (although absorbed, those could beat most people up and are extremly hard to find) The fall afterwards may have been a severe hurting to him, but not enough to kill him, much like the sword stabbed into Kefka from Celes. Kefka ran around and complained about that. Gesthal may have been beaten and fell onto Triangle Island or washed up there. The Zone Eater then would suck him up. Gesthal, having no clue where he is, is taken by the creatures within and clothed anew. This may have happened by the power that is shown by Gesthal and what not.
So I agree with no answer on the poll at all.

I once wrote out this wacked out theory about how gogo was really kefka. and how the kefka that you face at the end was all the evil within kefka manifested into life by the massive ammounts of magic he unleashed through the statues, which then explained his transformation into some kind of angel of death in the end.

Even further off the subject, I love how Gogo Could equip other peoples skills. Then I could have two people that can steal in my party. Even more fun the the coloseum stealing elixers from Typhoon or whatever his name was.

It could be that Gogo is a manifest of all those who lost their lives in the shift from WoB to WoR. They seek revenge against Kefka, and so join your party. It would explain why it can use anyone's skills, considdering there's bound to be a person of every class in there somewhere.

That could maybe explain how he got down there in the first place, and that area didn't exist before the WOR, just the island.
