Hey all, I am officially as of today out of school, so I should be more available on gaia. YAY!! I miss Gaia!

I was just wondering if any of you had heard about the anime, "Kyo Kara Maoh?" I saw the first volume and thought it was awesome. It had a lot of spunk to it, and used English words I'd never heard before. It was also very random and spelled out legible "Excel Saga" to me.

Does anyone know if it's any good of a series? I'm thinking about someday, if it's cheap enough on ebay about investing?

Also, has anyone else seen Saiyuki Reload Gunlock? What do you think? I didn't watch the English version, but I saw a peak and thought the voices stunk and sounded lame. I'm learning Japanese now, and so I watch only Japanese, and they were so much better. They actually sounded like they meant what they were saying. But as far as storylines, I think somewhat interesting. Maybe in need of a bit more reinvention for new-ness?

Also, anyone hear any news on "Di Vinci Code," "Pirates of the Caribbean 2," "X-Men 3," and "Spiderman 3?" Any good reviews, theatrical release date, any spoilers? I am working harder as a Mass Communications student to be up on movies, as well as politics if anyone wants to help me so I don't fail class next fall (US-East Asia Relations)? I will also be studying in Japan or Korea in about a year. Anyone have suggestions for etiquette, food choices, touring, etc?

Doomo arigatoo gozaimasu (thank you very much)!

I've only seen the first nine or ten episodes, but Kyo Kara Maoh is definitely worth it. It has a great plot, awesome characters, and.. um, Wolfram is cute? You're just going to have to trust me on this. ninja It's good.

I've only seen a few episodes of Kyou Kara Maou, but I really enjoyed it. The beginning plot was hilarious. Too bad I wasn't able to see more before it got licensed. sweatdrop

Okay! smile Is it able to keep the spirit of Volume 1, or do you think it becomes repetitory, but in a good way?
I thought Wolfram was interesting, too. He seems very quick to become jealous. Do you think that Yuri likes him, or is more stuck being his fiancee?

My favorite character so far has been Conrad Weller, but that's only after Vol 1...

Yeah, the first episodes were really great! I am just trying to figure out how to budget getting a few more, or just waiting until they're $10 or less on ebay... Who was your favorite character so far?

Well, like I said, I'm not TOO far past volume 1, but it seems to have varied, interesting plots. 3nodding They all stick with the general idea of Yuri being Demon King and trying to make everyone happy, but they're different enough.

Wolfram is one of my favorite anime characters ever. heart Even though Wolfram pretty obviously likes Yuri, Yuri's feelings towards Wolfram seem to be mostly of friendship and respect. That does not mean, of course, that I dislike the pairing.. ninja

Well, I haven't seen Saiyuki Reload...but I have started reading the Manga. I enjoy it personally. I like how all the characters have a very different, yet powerful backstory. Very cool.

Da Vinci Code- Supposedly was a bit of a flop. They changed a couple key things that made the book really cool, and it isn't really Tom Hanks best performance. It's out now, but it isn't the "OMG let's dismantle the Church's theology with this film..." that I think many people assumed it would be...

Pirates of the Caribbean 2- Looks promising. I don't know too much about the plot, but from what I heard it's something like Jack Sparrow made a deal with Davey Jones and owes him his soul, and now a bunch of undead pirates are after them again. Looks as funny and swashbuckling as the first one.

X men 3- I can't wait to see this one! I'm taking some friends to see it the night of the 26th downtown at Fanime. Basically the story revolves around a mixture of many different sagas, with incorporation of a few other facts that didn't occur in the comics...a la Magneto recruiting Calisto, and getting a fat ole' army. Besides that, there's a supposed cure for mutants, and that's what the whole crisis is caused by. One other thing, make sure you stay after the credits, because there's supposed to be a special movie. Sooo yeah. Woo hoo!

Spider Man 3- Well, MJ knows about Peter being Spidey, and so does Harry Osbourne. However, Hobgoblin will not be the main baddy in Spiderman 3. Instead, it's going to be the notorious Venom. So, look forward to some awesome CG effects for Venom's stuff, as well as some powerful new storytelling in Peter Parker's life, what with MJ knowing his secret, how will he balance his superhero day job with being MJ's boyfriend?

I went to Japan a couple of times...I don't know much about political stuff, but I'm hoping to minor in east asian studies too... ^_^

Hope this info helped.

Yeah, I think that was some of the vibe I got, but I was not all too sure. It does focus on Yuri's experience more than the other characters, I feel.. I also don't mind, in fact, I approve tbeir engagement, though I am sure that there are others, who would. I think it's a good thing for an anime to have, however, I worry that the relationship is meant to be funny/joke, and not realistic, so I hope they do something about that for mere diversity issues..

Arigatoo gozaimashita. Your reviews were very helpful. I have not seen all too many previews yet, and it was a good recap of the end results of the previous films (as I have not had time to rewatch all the previous films, and may not need to now).

I also wonder about Pirates. I hope that it maintains the spirit of the first, or I know a lot of people will be disappointed. I am curious to see if they can pull it off, as I was a big fan of the first, and even my mother, who hates movies I picked out, thoroughly enjoyed it.

X-men will probably be interesting. I did like the second one, more or less I thought Nightcrawler was awesome, I have a bobblehead in my car, and it always makes me wonder how Magnetto was able to also play roles as Gandalf.. they seem to be very different roles..

Also, what did you think about Japan? Where did you stay? What did you like best about Japan? What was your favorite food, and why? Did you stay wth host parents? What were they like (nice? mean? other?) Were you though vacation or school? What school did you go to, if school? Did you teach English, or can foriegn students have on-campus jobs? I'm currently considering Kansai Gaidai, Siebold University, Nagasaki, Nanzan University, and University of Ryuukuus in Okinawa, and am in the first stage of applying [oodles of paperwork].

If you're looking for cheap, check Amazon for used copies. Those tend to be cheaper than ebay. I've seen some of the single anime DVDs go for less than eight bucks! Sometimes less than five even! So if you find some on there, I could help you set up on the site if you haven't already. We could always do that the next time we hang out maybe. However, after looking at both sites it may be a while before anything shows up cheap. There aren't any DVDs on ebay for it so you probably spelt it wrong..but on Amazon they're between $14 and $18 I think.

Don't get me started on Reload and Gunlock. I love this series, manga AND anime. ADV had some really good VAs for the voices for the first series, Gensomaden Saiyuki, and then Geneon got its grubby little hands on Reload and Gunlock.

The voice actors themselves in Reload and Gunlock aren't bad, but their Saiyuki group pales in comparison to the original.

Still, love Saiyuki. Love it!

As for any suggestions, what kind of series are you looking for? Romance, fantasy, big robot etc etc? Or anything that might be interesting?
