Catholic school...
It's tolerant enough, I suppose. There are the good teachers, and then there are the bad ones. Most of the students don't care about religion one way or the other.

What really gets me are the kids who b***h about how TERRIBLE it is and how PERSECUTED they are because the Catholic school dares to make them show respect during prayer, learn about the doctrines of the religion, and so forth. I mean--the Catholic school system didn't just pop into being as a stricter version of a public school, it's in place to educate youth about Catholicism and instill what the Church believes are the proper morals. If you can't handle that, there are plenty of educational alternatives.

its a CATOLIC school. do they not understnd that word implies prayer and church and, dare i say it, religion? they should realize what they're getting into in going to a catholic school

While that is true, Catholic schools almost always apply to high school. And, if it does, teens rarely have a choice in the matter.

I went to a catholic grade school and Jr. High for 11 years of my life. While then I was catholic, I was very shut out from the world. I was so shut out, I more or less had NO IDEA that there were other religions in the world. Now... I dont know waht you'd call me. Thats all thanks to high school and exposure and learing about who I am... but I still have a root in catholisicm, but other roots elsewhere.

My school is not tolerant at all at least the students aren't. They all think there is no other right then they're own religion. I go to Southern meaning they are all red necks and believe everything is the devil stressed sweatdrop

I go to an art school in Denver where people don't even turn their head when they strange people. Its very tolerant. We have Buhdists, Aethiests, Christians, Pagans, Agnostics, etc.. They all get along, and when religions have been brought up, its always been a nice discussion, with no put downs or people getting too upsetted by it.

I only had one religion-related problem in school. I took a class called "World Cultures", throughout the semester people constantly made fun of other religions. I got annoyed and asked them to stop, so the teacher asked what my religion was, I told her I'm Unitarian, and the other students started making fun of that. Of course, they didn't know what it was, so they couldn't make fun of it very well, but it was still annoying.

None of the students(of all sorts of religions) make a big deal about Religion. It's the teachers who have a problem with that. What they hate even more are the homosexuals!

My school is quite tolerant. The most of what we have to do is stand during the pledge. We don't have to recite it.

i went to a christian school. they were politically liberal but conservative about personal lifestyle, sort of like John Paul II.

if we were not too obvious or loud about our symbolism or discussion we could pretty much do as we pleased.

the only way we would be punished for our views was if we actually sought out a confrontation. some did so, for conscience's sake. i didn't.

Yeah... confrtonation, even for conscience's sake, is never pleasant and is best avoided, in my opinion.

My school is... okay. I mean, generally accepting of different religions, though not so much about a lot of things, for example, sexuality. Leading up to wednesday, a friend and I hung up flyers all over the school for the Day of Silence and most of them were torn down the first time we hung them up, then we hung up 80 another night and still people tore them down. While we were waiting for a ride monday night, this guy tore one down right in front of us (not many people know it's us) so we put up another one, which he tore down (after seeing us put one up!) and then we put up another one. He criticized, saying "if they were smart, they'd just wait 'til we leave", but he didn't take it down again. And this guy in my first hour class tore one down when the teacher was out of the room so I went over, asked him why he did it, and told the teacher. The thing is, our teachers aren't allowed to share their beliefs, because the stupid parents around here think that just by saying something like "I'm democratic" or something, teachers are trying to change students' beliefs. Really stupid system.

Ooooh, the Day of Silence! I was one of about twenty people who parcipated in it. And probably the only one who actually made it the entire day without speaking rolleyes

Of course, now I have people calling me a lesbian left, right and center.

Of course also, it's true, so I pretty much dramatize and go "Oh my god. Really? Crap, I must have missed the memo!" Then I roll my eyes and walk away, and leave them going "Uhm... what was that?"

I can't say I know too well what the religious tolerance level is at my school, but I can't say I've encountered any problems personally. Of course, I also don't go spouting out my faith to people. The overwhelming majority of the campus is Christian, so I feel pretty alienated by and large, spiritually. There's a girl trying to get together a religious diversity group for next year though, and I really hope it pulls through!

Oh, I forgot how liberal my school is. Violent reminder right here.

Let me put it this way-you're more likely to be harassed for BEING devoutly Catholic than anything else. Most people at my school are:
a)Kinda Christian (AKA celebrate Christmas. Haven't been to church since they were 5.)
I
b)Agnostic.

c)Aetheist.

We DO have a "Christian Club," but we also have a "Jew Crew" and a GSA. A devout Catholic is a curisity. We even have a Buddhist Temple downtown.
