thinking of a new world to host a game in, and i have an odd idea. plaz tell me if you have any suggestions!
first, the physical aspect; the shape of the planet is a torus, a circular tube like an inner tube, which mean the world map is not squre like Eartg's but rectangular, much wider than it is tall. Since it has the radius of about a third of earth's, it has an incredibly higher surface area. Also because of it's shape, the planet thus does not experience equal day and night, there is consequently a light side and dark side. The four moons provide the passage of days; two opposite ones provide a daily eclipse that allows for the light side's few hours of well-lit night, and bigger, cresent shaped moons on the outside to provide the pale semblance of day for the dark side. Magical heat transfer constantly maintains the tempurature, lest the dark side become a frozen wasteland and the light side become a molten sea of superheated lava, though the fact that the sunn is smaller and far more feeble than earth's also provides help. There is also two midway, twilight sides, forested and plunged into what most would mistake for dusk.
next is the history; first and foremost the planet, the moons, and even the sun they all orbit are artifical, being a magically created, rumored to be the work of some very mighty mortals who created the place as a sanctuary and then ascended to dietyhood as their bodies faded away from the effort of creating an entire planet. In any case, the place is far from paradise. The light side has adopted a decidely good-aligned aura, while the dark side is unmistakeably evil. Thus, only the twilight is without its good vs. evil energies; the dark side and light sides have mild alignments as if they were planes. Due to the alignments, the sides are in constant battle, often over territory on the twilight side. The dark side, due to the influx of ground-level heat, is mostly volcanic, and even the cool spots are errily lit by the inevitably nearby volcanoes, which never quite seem to go dormant. Because of the lack of light, many creatures native to Earth's Underdark live only just below the surface, if not on the surface alltogether, as the drow do.
