Don't worry yourself too much, I think that the crisis has pretty much died itself out. She's even in dialogue with my "dark and brooding" friend again. Thanks to you guys I'll be much better armed if there's a relapse or repeat or whatever you call it.

Having an intimate, personal relationship with vast depression myself (all joking aside) I would say a few things on the subject.

First off- being "cheered up" is one of the last things a person who's truly depressed (not just down in the dumps) really wants. it makes them feel that there's even more wrong with them, and pushes them further into the depression (in a lot of cases)
"they're happy...why can't I be happy, too? what's wrong with me? Why can't I feel like they do?"

Each case, of course, is different, and there's no big fix-all that makes every situation better.

Comics offer an escape for a while. Not a bad thing by any means, but it may not help the problem either.
