Forgotten's Name: Valentine Forgotten's Gender: Female Daemon's Name: Torment Daemon's Species: Bull
Forgotten's Appearance (Physical): Valentine has thick curling hair that falls over her shoulders, a deep crimson color. Her eyes are rich brown with hints of red deep within and lined with long, thick lashes. Her bone structure is delicate and she is small, appearing even more so next to Torment. She has pale skin that somehow never seems to scar and is entirely unblemished - not even so much as a freckle. Valentine dresses elaborately and formally, usually in eye-catching colors. Her favorite shade is a deep crimson that matches the color of Torment's horns. She tends to wear gowns with a rennaissance flair and around her neck she wears a golden collar. Forgotten's Appearance (Traits): Valentine is an appealing girl, but theres some kind of lingering melancholy always in her expression, even when she smiles. This tends to make her look rather haunted, like she knows some secret that she can't quite resign herself to. Daemon's Appearance (Physical): Torment is a huge black bull with deep red horns and eyes the color of blood. He is much bigger than Valentine, muscular and imposing. His hooves strike sparks on stone floors and he can emit hot steam from his nostrils. It's rumored he can even breathe flame... but nobody has ever seen him do it. Daemon's Appearance (Traits): Huge, imposing and absolutely terrifying to look at.
Forgotten's Personality: Valentine stays close to Torment and obeys what he says. She seems to fear him, even. A quiet girl, she listens and silently absorbs what she's heard, forming her own opinions as far as the dynamics between people go. She's naturally skilled at reading body language and tends to behave as those around her seem to want her to behave. But don't let her seemingly meek demeanor fool you, she has a sharp tongue when she chooses to use it and underneath the mask of obedience she can be quite a firecracker. Ultimately, Valentine finds pleasure in pain and this fact disturbs her no little bit. So her melancholy is often caused by the distraction of wondering what is wrong with her, that she'd feel that way. Daemon's Personality: Torment is more Valentine's master than her companion. He is jealous and posessive and very quick to anger. Anger which is usually directed at her. He lives up to his name, a constant torment to Valentine and a governing figure in her life. There is nothing soft or friendly about him, instead he is abrasive and harsh and tends to make strangers very uncomfortable.
Excerpt: There was no pleasure in this. At least not in the way that anyone but an anguisette would understand it. Pain stung my body like a plucked harpstring, and behind closed eyes my vision was washed in red. I was in it and of it, at once the taut, quivering string and the high sustained note of it, a note of purest beauty uttered in the depths of torment.
How does the excerpt affect the pair?: It gives a perfect example of Valentine's unwilling reaction to torment (Torment) and pain. She is his because he knows how to play her like an instrument, and he is hers because he wont let her be anyone else's. Torment knows Valentine better than anyone and knows how to illicit the exact reactions from her that he desires. In turn, Valentine responds to his skilled manipulations wether she wants to or not and is tied to him and his cruelty in a way that very few outsiders could understand. What does it reveal about..
.. their past?: In their "story" Valentine was what was known as an anguissette. A very rare woman who was chosen by two gods to act as an avatar of sorts. Her pleasurable response to pain comes from being twice-pricked by the gods and Torment represents her secret desires to be controlled. .. how they are now that they are "reborn" as a Forgotten? Valentine somewhat resents the words and their truth. She can't help herself for reacting as she does and for reacting so strongly to Torment. She wishes the words weren't so true and at the same time she can't deny who she really is. It causes her a great deal of frustration. As for Torment, he enjoys his station in life in the cold and calculating sort of way creatures of his particular temperment enjoy things. He represents Valentine's unspoken self and so he knows exactly what to do with her to get the reaction he desires. .. their future?: Valentine is what she is. And she will either have to accept it and learn to temper herself, becoming a being of great but quiet strength in her ability to take pain and transform it into pleasure or she will continue to deny herself and cause herself more pain. Torment's road lies wherever Valentine chooses to go, because as much as he controls her, in truth she is the one in charge. And he knows it, though she may take a long time to come to that realization. If she ever does.
Powers, talents, special traits?: Valentine is skilled at reading body language, can fit easily into small spaces and with her knack for behaving just how people want her to, she gains trust easily. She is also a talented linguist, it takes her very little time to pick up a new language. Torment's skills lie in his manipulation of Valentine and his ability to breathe fire and strike sparks with his hooves. A physical manifestation of the taut passion that runs both their lives.
