(Sorry for the lame title... ehehe... n___n;; )
With Deathnote coming to an end, it got me to thinking: Which is better, reading a manga as it's published (or scanlated), or after it's complete?
Personally, I started reading Deathnote relatively early, but I've read other series that were already finished or had a large amount of chapters already scanlated/published. Because of this I think I can list some pros/cons of both side.
Reading a series as it's released:
Pros
+ Less chance of running into spoilers accidentally.
+ The suspense of cliffhangers. (not everyone likes cliffhangers, but some do ;3)
+ The chance of helping a manga become better known.
Cons
- Having to wait for updates. (Personally I think it adds to the experience, but I'm sure others don't)
- Harder to find fanfiction/art/etc. XD;;
Reading a series that is finished (Or in this case, already finished but now being published in English):
Pros
+ Not having to wait for updates, you can read it as fast as you want!
+ There's most likely a larger fanbase than a manga that is still being published. (Not always true... n___n;; )
Cons
- Easier to accidentally run accross spoilers
- Cliffhangers don't always have the same suspense, since you can quickly move onto the next installment if you wish.
- May be harder to find spoiler-free discusions of where you currently are in the series.
Those are just a few pros and cons I thought of, but what I want to know is your opinions? What are some of your pro/cons? Do you prefer reading a series that is still in progress or one that is already finished? What are some of your experiences?

I've wondered about that for ages.

I prefer reading manga while it's published, because then I have some time to guess what happens next and be exited.

Althought, it is annoying if there a long pause after something 'EEKINTERESTING'! Because then it's just too exciting.
XD
And I hate spoilers.

Nothing's more annoying than to bump into something you didn't know. Then it's WAY frustrating to read the manga 'till that part!

Boo! Lame title! It sucks! You suck... kidding... ninja -offers moki an L shaped cookie-
Okay personally I like reading a series as it's released, especially when it's a once a week release like Death Note was. I like having the suspense and being able to get into discussions about the newest chapter week after week.

So how many volumes there will be?
I know they're going to release the 12th one soon in Japan, but is that the last one?
I'm glad that DN ain't one of those OMGLONG series, 'cause it would suck majorly!
I hate series like that.

gonk Sadly a lot of people find Death Note too long at just 108 chapters...
Anyway though. The volume thing-- I'm not really sure. I've never kept much track of what chapters were in what volume sweatdrop

In Death Notes case, I prefer to read it as it comes to me, and I don't like running across spoilers (Why me and Addie freaked when we came upon a revealing spoiler gif on photobucket only after reading the very first book. It practically killed our brains.) Also why I haven't been to half of the topics in this guild yet. I want to read everything for myself before I go in and discuss *insert random Death Note spoiler thing here* with everyone else to avoid killing my brain even more.

o_o' Okay... I think the 12th would be the final one... Since the RAW collections on a certain site that puts them into volumes has to 11 now but now that 108 is out I'm sure they'll add 12...

gonk The 12th one is the last one...its finished in China and in Taiwan now too...its really good :3

I like reading mangas that are finished (I download my manga)
so if a manga is incomplete, I won't even bother reading it, no matter how good it is
