Apparently you don't understand basic logic. To take a page from the SD.net fantasy debate forum: A very smart man It seems some people require examples, since they do not understand concepts. In particular, many fantasy geekboys come here and say that magic cannot be quantified. Perhaps they do not understand what quantification is, or how numbers apply. Allow me to provide an example: Quote: A fantasy wizard has a magic spell which is said to make him invincible. Let us further suppose that we see him use it against a foe who can throw lightning, and it seems to work. The magic geekboy would look at this and conclude "yes, this spell makes him invincible. We know because he used it and it worked. Therefore, God himself could not overwhelm this spell." An empirically-minded (read: scientifically minded) person looks at this same evidence and says "if we had not seen the spell in action, we would not know whether it works at all. Now that we have seen it in action, we know that it works well enough to block or at least redirect a lightning strike. We can use data from normal lightning strikes as a rough estimate for the energy and power levels involved, and this would represent a lower limit for its capabilities." Any further extrapolation of its abilities is unreasonable unless you assume literal semantic inerrancy on the part of the source. And bear in mind that even if one does assume literal semantic inerrancy on the part of the source, all you have to do is find a single flaw in the literal semantic inerrancy of the entire book (or comic series, or entire series of books, etc) and that house of cards comes crashing down.

Does the above logic mean that we could assume anything reasonably stronger than a lightning bolt getting through the barrier? That does set some significant limitations... damn, RPGDL has spoiled me to simple numerical battles.

Yes, you can't just assume without good reason that something stronger than anything a certain defense has ever blocked will not get through.

hacker0102 Mr.Mxyzptlk Izayoi Kyoya RahXephon WILL beat Alucard. You can take the maybe out of your first post now. If you need me to, I can explain why. Also Dark Schneider, Burori, Son Goku, and Zeorymer. You're kidding with the DBZ characters? They outma6tch him in speed and at times match him on strength, but it trumps them on endurance, Healing, magic and intelligence. It's only a matter of time until he goes level one and either A) Devours them or B) Rips them to shreds. Are you saying Alucard would A) Devour Goku or B) Rip him to shreds? I like to also point out Dark Schnieders healing, Magic, and Intelliagents is far above Alucards. Hell Dark Schnieder Turns Vampire Lords into his Slaves.

DasUberGuy Yes, you can't just assume without good reason that something stronger than anything a certain defense has ever blocked will not get through I don't think you answered the same queston he asked, Das. While I agree we can't assume anything of greater power would be blocked, without evidence of the upper boundary of the force field, we can't necessarily assume that, say, something twice the power of a lightning bolt would NOT be blocked.

Yes we can, because there is no evidence that it would be blocked.

Give me an example of Dark Schneider's regeneration, magic, and intelligence, and then show me how that trumps a guy who never really has any problems fighting the strongest enemies from his own universe. I really know nothing about Dark Schneider...

Well i'm going from what I've heard from the other people here, but he stole the Devil's body, and cast a basic fire spell to break out from the deepest depths of hell.
