A point on rule 7: what if it claims to be a good spirit? How do you know you can trust this entity any more than one claiming to be an evil spirit?
Why wouldn't an evil spirit just lie and say whatever you want to hear? A lot of evil people do that, what prevents the spirit from misleading you in this way?
What if the spirit claims to be something it isn't. Like it's a demon and says its an angel. How can you tell? Not all angels have wings and a halo, not all demons have horns and a tail, or so I've read.

Some thoughts:
Respect is paramount, no matter what you're doing.
Make sure you're clean going into a ritual, and just as clean going out--you don't want to add something unknown to the ritual you're doing, and you really don't want to drag anything out behind you
Don't let anyone talk and/or coerce you into doing something you don't understand and/or are not comfortable with. No matter how much you trust them, or how nice they make it sound, if you don't understand what they're asking you to do, and you do it, you might end up doing something not so nice.
And for all that's good in the world, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it!

sweatdrop I hate to interrupt your spirited gab but all wiccans know that the number 1 rule of magic is: An it harm none in thought, word, or deed, do what thy will shall be the whole of the law. That sums it up pretty well for me, but a little note here.
The name is the thing, is always good to know. You know the name you've got a real handle on the thing with which you work.

There are things called angelic spirits and demonic spirits. The difference is that angelic spirits make you feel good and safe whether they are or not, while demonic spirits make your nervous system overload with fear whether their intent is good or evil. I learned this the only way you can-the hard way. I was lucky. But don't depend on luck. Most of the time it's the bad kind of luck....

Another thing...don't take a watch into a working circle. If it is cast right, the watch will never work again. I had a student forget and take one of these watches, good to 350 feet below sea level. Of course it didn't work so he sent it back to the factory as it was garanteed. They wrote him a letter with the new watch they sent him saying, "What in the hell did you do to our watch?" And of course he couldn't tell them! I think after long study on this phenomena that the circle messes with the polarity of the Earth. After all wiccans know circles to be temples cut between worlds.

I've been a working high priestess of wicca now it seems forever and I can tell you that taking drugs esp, when the moon is full or new can get you into heaps and heaps of trouble. Unless you know what you are doing, don't mess with them and working magic. My roommate's boyfriend came to break it off with her after taking peyote on a full moon in (of all places an Indian graveyard!). It was three days later and he was still as high as when he chewed the stuff. I had to calm the roommate and still cast properly, which takes complete concentration, and get him down. It was touch and go for a while but with the grace of Goddess, I started him back on his life path. Please don't think I'm bragging here. I'm trying to impart hard won knowledge to you all. Blessed be.
