"Why do I have to go?" Reiha asked with a sigh, "I don't want to impress Chel. Keep me out of your stupid dating crap." Reiha grumbled, mostly because she had bestowed the lowest of indegnities she had ever faced in her life.
Adain had put her in...a dress.
"Look Brat, I don't have much going for me kay? Not for long term meet the parents type of stuff." Adain looked away from the mirror, he wrote slacks and a collared shirt but after a few attempts at the tie he gave up. Besides he looked stupid in it. "You're one of the best things in my life Reiha, you prove that I'm stable enough to take care of someone else."
Reiha glared at her guadian for a long time, "Why is that important anyway? You make Chel smile that should be enough."
Adain laughed, "Sometimes I think you got a romantic lurking in your cynical heart Reiha, not much but sometimes. That's enough for Chel, but...it might not be for her parents."
"You mean you." Reiha mutered and glanced to the open window as Korbin came fluttering back, he purposely went to eat dinner early so he'd be there for Reiha. "You're scared you're not good enough to take care of her, which is stupid because she can take care of herself." Reiha walked over to the window as Korbin came in and looked over her.
"What the hell are you wearing?" Korbin asked as Reiha rolled her eyes and grumbled.
"Adain is being stupid again" Reiha explained as she pulled the crow into her arms. Her hair was down but pulled back with a green ribbion, the matching colored dress had white lace and Adain still managed to get her in pat and leather shoes and tights. Adain waited till Korbin was gone before he did so.
"Don't ruin her clothes Korbin, I just bought all thsi crap and we should keep it in case we ever go somewhere nice." Adain warned the pair as they exchanged nasties about him. At the moment he didn't care, so long they behaved.

"and please promise to behave, dad.. He's very nervous." Chel said, finishing up the short lecture she was giving her parents outside of Adain's door.
"If he's that great he shouldn't have reason to worr...Ow!" The large tan man winced as he rubbed his arm where his wife had hit him. The much shorter woman, who shared most of Chel's facial features just glowered at him.
"I won't have you intimidating this poor boy, Stephen. I think it's wonderful that Ixchel has finally settled down and we should be supportive." She scolded before turning to her daughter and smiling. "I'm sure he's a lovely young man.
Chel smiled at her mother, but it didn't hide the worry in her features. Taking a deep breath, she knocked on Adain's door.

Adain glanced at the door and took a very deep breath. They were here. Adain looked down to Reiha who was still complaining with Korbin and bent down in front of them both.
"Please be good, both of you. Please. I don't...People like Chel don't come into anyone'se life everyday. I don't wnat to mess it up." Adain begged quetly but seriously.
"Geez, just marry her already and put all of us out of misery." Reiha muttered as she held the bird close. She walked to the door before glancing back to Adain, "Don't worry, if they're nice I'll be nice" Reiha promised.
"They don't touch Reiha and I wont touch them." Korbin threatened but Adain just took it as an agreement. He nodded absently and went to the door, a little quiet after what Reiha said. He opened the door and smiled.
"Hey...Chel."

Morianna
"Hi Adain.." She said, unable to sight the smile on her face as she saw him. Her eyes flitted over his clothes and he felt herself swell up with pride.
Turning to her parents, she smiled. "Mama.. Dad. This is Adain.. Adain, this is my mom, Zaramama, and my dad, Stephen." She said, introducing them.
"Call me Zara, dear." Zara said quickly, smiling at Adain broadly from her husbands side. Stephen looked, less than pleased, but he grunted out a hello anyways.

"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Belmonte." Adain grined embaressedly as he leaned over to take both their hans. The grunted hello made him pale a bit but he kept his smile in place before he glanced down to Reiha.
"Uhhh, this is my kid, Reiha, and her bird Korbin." Adain introduced, blushed a bit but smileing still. "Reiha came to me on a train one day and well...kinda been taking care of her ever sense. Or...she takes care of me. Kinda depends on how you look at it."
"No it doesn't." Reiha muttered and rolled her eyes but put out a hand and with manners Adain didn't know she possesed as she gave them a polite smile, "Nice to meet you Zara and Stephen."

"It's nice to meet you too, Reiha and Korbin." Zara said, obviously impressed by Reiha and smiling widely at her. Stephen looked, mildly impressed but didn't say anything until Zara jabbed him in the ribs.
"Ow.. Uh well.. We should get going to dinner." He said, rolling his eyes. He obviously did not want to be here.
Chel frowned at him, before moving to Adain's side. "It'll be alright.. You've already won over Mama.." She whispered in his ear before planting a soft kiss on his cheek.

Adain smiled from the kiss and his arm went around her easily. He just liked the way his arm fit around her. He blushed a bit though at what she said. Won over mom? Why? He hadn't done anything.
"Well, Um...I got a nice place to go." Not Lance nice but it would be fine and he made sure thier table would be more private. "Should I drive?"
"Stop being so nervous." Reiha said casually and walked forward, "They walked of course we're taking your car." Reiha pulled open the door and shifted her way into the middle, sure that is where she should belong as the smallest person.
Adain blushed a bit, and glanced between the three people, "She...has a big mouth and no fear." That wasn't exactly true. Reiha had a lot of fear, maybe that's why she didn't far social embaressment, she knew their were a lot better things to fear than being embaressed.

Stephen waved him off, following Reiha. "The kids got spunk." He said. The first positive comment all night. Zara smiled and nodded in agreement, following Stephen as they took the back seat, one at each side.
Chel was smiling broadly now at her father's words and moved her hand to Adain's, holding it tightly. Things were going well. "Reiha's behaving fine, don't worry so much." She told him softly.. "Though you'll have to tell me later what sort of bribe you pulled to get her in that dress. She doesn't seem the type.. She said smiling, and slipping into the front seat.

Adain smiled, relaxing a bit as he muttered, "It was more brute force." as he went to the driver's seat, starting the car up and driving down the road as he glanced in the back seat to see her parents again.
"So...um...How long are you guys in town?" Adain asked awkwardly, trying to start a conversation rolling. Reiha rolled her eyes at him but then looked over at the parents on ether of her side.
"Have you guys met Berial yet? He's my best friend friend." Reiha said proudly as she stroked Korbin. "Besides Korbin of course. I've know Korbin for as back as I could remember. He always understands me."
Reiha figured if she kept some conversation going Adain could relax a bit. he was getting far to excited over this.

"Only a week." Stephen replied gruffly before his attention was diverted by Reiha and he nodded.
"Erik's boy?" When she received confirmation from her husband that it was she continued. "Oh yes. He was a complete darling.. Though those marks.." She trailed off, worry obvious in her tone.
"He's a fine specimen indeed." Stephen said, looking down at Korbin. "Very healthy. You've been taking good care of him."
Chel smiled as her parents were taken in by Reiha's conversation. She was a brilliant girl. Chel would have to pay her back for this somehow.

Reiha frowned a bit as she brought up the marks and then Reiha shrugged a bit as she held Korbin a bit closer. "Berial is the sweetest guy I know. Sweeter than Korbin but no one can replace Korbin. Erik is also teaching me magic" Reiha figured they be interested since Erik was theirs too.
Korbin glanced up to Stephan as did Reiha who beamed at him. Adain stared as he realized Chel's father just got father with Reiha in under five minutes than he did in five months....Life wasn't fair.
"Thanks, I try, but he mostly takes care of himself. He's actually the one who takes care of me. He protects me, and stays close to me and makes sure that I never feel scared or alone. He's very special. I'm so lucky to have him." REiha said softly, holding Korbin closer, who nuzzled her softly.
"I'm the lucky on Reiha." He almost cooed.

Chel's mother's lips pursed into a worried frown. "Magic is awfully dangerous.. Erik gets hurt all the time, the poor thing.." She opened her mouth to continued but Stephen made a waving motion with his hand and interrupted her. "The girl's obviously bright enough not to get herself into trouble when practicing magic. Don't baby her, Zara."
Chel said nothing, leaving them to their own devices as she smiled from her seat, looking over at Adain and beaming at him, waiting until she caught his eye before mouthing. "I'll make this all up to you later.." She said adding a small wink..

Reiha glanced up at Zara, then gave her a comforting smile, "Don't worry, Berial made me promise to never to magic without someone, besides Korbin, in the room with me. He doesn't want me hurt. I've only been hurt a little, no big deal, no bigger hurt than I would be if I did sports or something and sports can't help me fly." Reiha's goal was clear. She'd practice magic till she learned and could do a flight spell.
Adain glanced at Chel, then smiled (blushing a bit) but smiling none the less as he caught what she said. He was going to make this work. He finally ahd something worth fighting for in tihs realtionship. Though Reiha so clearly charming her parents couldn't hurt him right? At least she hadn't said anything insulting about him...yet. Oh please Reiha, know that much tact.

Zara smiled broadly at this reassurance and nodded. "And I'm sure Erik will make a very good teacher. He's quite intelligent." She said proudly. She was very proud of her nephew and how far he had come.
"Not as smart as our Ixchel though."Stephen cut in with a gruff laugh. Chel could have groaned. "We have different specialties, Dad.." She said, as if it were a well rehearsed answer.
"Of course. Of course." Stephen said waving his hand as if he'd heard and disregarded this answer a thousand times before. "So, Adain, what's your specialty? Ixchel never told us."
Chel paled at this. She hadn't lied to her parents about Adain, but the subject of his work simply hadn't come up. Of course they'd assume he was some sort of scientist. Stephen was a marine biologist, Zara was an archeologist. Her aunt and uncle (Erik's parents) had both been scientist as well.

Adain blushed, not because he was ashamed of his job but just because his mind took that question and took it too a completely wrong path. Sex flashed though his mind and jumped to his tounge before he knew what was heppening, luckily he managed to trap it before he made an utter fool of himself.
"Specialty?" Adain asked slowly, not entierly getting what he wanted to know. Lance was up front about wanting to know what he job was.
Reiha, always being a bit quicker on the draw glanced between the two parents, and then snickered a little. "I think they wnat to know your feild of study Adain."
Well that didn't help, "Feild of study? I don't study. I lift boxes for Durem Deport, the largest shiping compeny in Gaia. I empty warehouses into trucks."

Zara's slight surprise was almost imperceptible compared to Stephen's. His jaw dropped in shock and it took him a few seconds to recover. "You lift boxes?" He asked, his tone a mix of shock and anger.
Chel closed her eyes at the tone as if it had hurt. She hadn't expected him to react like that. "Dad.." She started, but Stephen cut her off.
"I thought you said you were serious about this boy, Ixchel?" He said, ignoring glares from Zara, who seemed to have come to terms with it. Chel's eyes sparked and she turned around to face her father.
"I AM serious about him, Dad." She said fiercely. She hadn't expected this of her father and she was hurt.
"Lifting boxes.. That's barely a job, let alone a career." He seemed to ignore Chel's words as he continued. "You need someone with stability. Like that Lance boy, not some bum you picked up in a bar. OWW!"
Stephen's angry words were cut of as Zara reached over and thwapped him soundly. Chel's cheeks were flushed with fury and she looked positively murderous. "Stephen! It doesn't matter what his job is. He.."
"It's alright, Mama."Chel said suddenly, turning away to face the road. She looked angry, and hurt and about to hit someone or cry, or both.. "I didn't invite him to judge. His opinion doesn't matter." Stephen actually flinched at Chel's cutting tone.

Adain didn't flip out, he kept his eyes at the road and quietly drove. He was surpised at how that hurt. People didn't normally....attack him like that. Reiha called him stupid but he always felt that was different. That was her attempt to feel...powerful in a world where she was very weak. Besides...he was stupid, he knew that. Maybe he wasn't an idiot but he wasn't as smart as most. Certainly not as smart as Reiha or Chel, both whom seem to be smarter than average. He was more...Berial's level proably, as sad as it was to admit.
He pulled up to the resturant and stoped the care, carefully unbuckling his steabelt before he turned around. Adain was never a coward and he promised himself he'd never let anyone make him feel like s**t again. Even Chel's father.
"I lift boxes." he told the man quietly, looking him straight in the eyes. "It's not a carrer, but it's a job and it's one I can do well. I manage to own a house and support a kid with that job. Maybe I'm not rich but I've never had to say no to Reiha because I couldn't afford something. Most of that is because Reiha doesn't ask for expensive stuff but still. I like my job and honestly it's one of the best things I can do. I'm not smart, not nearly as smart as Chel, or Erik. I never did well in school, and I never wanted too. But I'm happy Mr. Belmonte, and I make Chel happy, or at least I try too. I'm not perfect, not even close, but I'll walk though fire for those I love." Adain sighed once then got out of the car, his body hunched a bit as he walked to the resturant.
Reiha watched the whole thing silent and then she looked up to Stephen, "They met at Erik's. Erik trusts Adain." Was all she said as she climbed up into the front seat and went out Adain's door, not really walking up to him but followng a bit closely behind. Adain reached out and rubbed her head. Reiha wasn't loving, but she was steady. Right now that's all Adain really needed.

Chel didn't say a word to her father, but stepped out of the car, quickly going to Adain's side. "I'm sorry about that. I didn't expect it." She said. She was obviously upset at her father's words.. She didn't each to touch Adain because.. she wasn' sure he wanted her too right now. "His opinion really doesn't matter.. I could care less what your job is, or what your IQ is.. Those things don't matter to me.. You matter to me.." She said before turning away, feeling awkward. It was her fault he had been attacked like that afterall. "thought you might want to know." She added in a soft voice.
Inside the car, Zara was thoroughly ringing Stephen out. "Where are your manners?! He's a perfectly nice boy and Ixchel LIKES him! Who cares what his job is? You should be HAPPY for Ixchel. Not trying to drive the boy away from her!" and with that she stormed from the car. Stephen sat there for a moment rushing his fingers through his hair, before he got out silently and trailed behind the group.

Adain turned to Chel, reaching over and grabed her hand and then smiled at her, a bit sadly but it was a smile. He wraped his hand around hers and just pulled her closer, "I never thought differently Chel." He promised, reaching up to stroke her cheek, feeling that kissing her would be a mistake because of the audience. "I know you've never looked down on me, and I thank you for that, for never even thinking of it." Adain smiled then glanced to her parents.
"I think Zara just yelled at Stephen" Reiha snickered a bit as she petted Korbin, thinking about what they said. Money shouldn't mean that much. She knew that Adain worked hard but he never complained about it, he just worked and delt with it. He proably didn't like it ether. Who really wanted to lift boxes?
"Hmmph, he shouldn't let his mate talk like that." Korbin muttered a bit but Reiha rolled her eyes.
"It doesn't work that way with people Korbin. Besides, he deserved it. You just want to take his side because he complimented you." Reiha countered as she turned to walk into the resturant, she was hungry and the dress was itchy.

Chel smiled at Adain's words ad gestures, leaning into his hand as he brushed her cheek with closed eyes and a bright smile. Zara elbowed Stephen for him to watch and even he had to grudgingly admit.. that he had very rarely seen Ixchel that happy, especially with a boy.
"I love you.." Chel whispered softly to him as they stayed close. Both and Stephen and Zaramama couldn't help the slight widening of their eyes as the whisper floated to them.
Catching up with the group, Zara beamed at Adain as she followed Reiha inside. Stephen looked at him briefly, up and down then up again, before speaking. "Let's get inside.. You two can have privacy later.." His tone wasn't angry and Chel was smiling as she was quite sure that was a coded "I'm sorry".

Adain smiled a bit and wished desperate that he could answer back, but he couldn't. So he just sighed a bit and hugged her tight. He would make her happy, one way or another. He just wished, sometimes, that he was really worthy of the love she kept on giving him to him.
When Stephen spoke up though Adain blushed and backed off a bit, rubbing the bac of his head as he looked over her father. At least he didn't seem mad anymore.
"Yes Sir. I hope you like the resturant, it's kinda a simple dinner sorta place, but I'm buying." he said firmly. It was the least he could do, buy.
"Adain! Get in here and tell this woman that Korbin is allowed in here!" Reiha's voice came from behind the door where the little girl was argueing with a waitress, who was trying to get Korbin but both bird and girl were struggling against it.
"Oh s**t." he groaned and raced in. "Reiha you said you'd behave." he whined.
