Just think that you are alone, with no one around to hear you. It gets alot easier the more you do it

The best way that I've found is just to practice so much that it becomes second nature.
I don't know how long I've practiced some of my solos, but, when I give a recital or even a play performance I don't even realize that the audience is there until I hear the applause at the end of the show or song.

I'd say stare at the wall, but I stared at a sunny window while I was singing my very first solo. By the end of the song I was blind... And since the window was really high up compared to the judge, I got points taken off for staring at the 'ceiling'...

our state (go MT go) just finished state competition after district. i had a french art song, en priere by faure, and i totally forgot the words. but, i did get points for pushing through and acting cool. so really, combine singing and acting. act cool to start and if you screw up, don't appologize or stop just go on through!

Yeah. Don't EVER let on that you're nervous or that you might not know all the words (even though that's pretty damn obvious). I guess it's a matter of learning to control impulses. And yes, practicing until the material is second nature always works. Too bad most people don't quite have the time. x_x;;

If you are nervious right before, breathe only twice this way: in through your nose, out through your mouth. Any more than twice, you can get light headed.

I got one at our all county... I got sick that night, and then I couldnt come back to sing at the concert. I was so TICKED.
But as for solos, take deep breaths, then get out there and dive into it. After the first few notes it wont be so bad. mrgreen
