This is a mermaid I drew about four months ago. I saw that someone in this guild has drawn one so it inspired me to draw myself my first mermaid. ^ ^ only today though i decided to take a picture of it. ^ ^;; My scanner seems to have crashed...>_> Lately though, i've been into drawing lots and lots of mermaids, plenty to go around really. heart

Just a few tips...

~The forearm of (my left) the arm is a little thicker than the upper arm.
~The (my right) breast seems to slope a little more than necessary, making it seem like the breast continues from the collar bone to the lower part of the breast.
~The fingers and thumb seem to be too long to the other part of the hand.
~Below the bend of the tail it seems to bulge. Tip: when drawing mermaids, it's often best to not make a bend. That way it seems like a fish tail rather than human legs stuffed into a sack of scales.

I know it may seem a bit harsh, but I guess since I'm always drawing mermaids it's more noticable to me. Other than that, I like the feel of this piece. She seems very calm.

In fairness to sugar-meow, I don't think her intent here is to "take" your picture. You still have it after all. The easiest way to truly give understandable comments, I think, is to make a copy and illustrate/make notes on the copy and post it for you. We'd all freak if an instructor drew right on our work but, I've seen instructors put plastic overlays on art and draw with dry erase markers on the plastic...I think she's trying to do the same thing.
By the way my comments are pretty much the same. The bend in the tail is a little "bulgy". Perhaps having more than one fold to allow the shape to gradually reduce? My "problem" with the breasts is that they don't sem aligned with each other- 1 pointing up, 1 pointing down; 1 conical, the other round.
There is a universal mindset that mermaids are graceful creatues and you've accomplished that! Scales ARE a headache to draw but, what a lovely result when you finish!!

(Thanks, Pierre) Don't worry, silly...You're art is yours, and my art is mine. I was only trying to be a bit more clear with the critism. Tip: Next time, if you're really worried, you could try watermarking your art.

i'm not worried about you stealing it, it's merely the fact that it made me jump up when I saw it. I meant to say that next time, tell me what the link is about...scares me to see my stuff on links. xd ;; and I would watermark my stuff but I don't know how and I don't have photoshop or all that fancy crap. xp I used to but my comp formatted on it's own...>_>

I'm just letting you know that PG-13 means no nudity.

In this guild I ask that images with nudity not have the nudity shown, or not be posted as images. This is for two reasons. The first is being polite and respectfull to those who do not wish to see such. The second is that I don't like nudity.
