well, it depends. if you want to farm like crazy, i suggest MNK/THF. it gets lots of items, and it kills things fast. also, it just sounds awsome. a humble monk learning the ways of a thief... But, if you want power, WAR is probaly the best.

MNK/NIN is pretty good near the end game. A friend of mine uses that combo, and it works pretty well, especially solo.
