BackstoryIt's unclear how the black-and-red-eyed child went undetected for so long, but his discovery and adoption by Jean-Luc LeBeau, leader of the Thieves Guild of New Orleans, may have been a key factor. He named the boy Remy LeBeau, though the nickname "Le Diable Blanc" stuck with him in the Guild for many years, and raised Remy as his own son, training him in the arts of the Guild. The boy wore dark sunglasses in public, claiming a sensitivity to light, and was told never to let anyone outside the family see his eyes. Remy excelled as a thief, mastering the trade and earning the codename "Gambit" among his Guild bretheren. Just a month shy of his 15th birthday, his mutant ability to kinetically charge inorganic matter first manifested during a card game with his older brother Henri. The cards in his hand charged and burst. Henri and Remy immediately told their father what had happened, and Jean-Luc, trying to protect his adopted son, ordered the boys to flee. Who knows how far they might have made it, had Remy's newly manifested powers become unstable, causing things he touched to charge randomly, with no control over what or when. The authorities tracked them easily, and Remy was pulled out of Henri's arms and thrown into a police car. His powers failed him then, and he was unable to escape.
PersonalityRemy has always been a people person. He LOVES people. Talking to them, watching them, stealing from them, looking at them, listening to them... He hates the way he was taken from his family, but tries not to let anyone see how much it bothers him. He refuses to hate "norms", having learned from experience that not all of them are bad. He's often boyish and immature, though he can be eerily insightful at times (but often plays it off with a great deal of natural charm and humor).
