I've read quite a few books on Greek/Roman mythology this year though I am ashamed to say I can remember the names of them. I read quite a bit about Artemis and Athena since they are my two favorite Goddesses. I also admire Apollo quite a bit. If you have not read the Odyssey by Homer than I highly recommend it for you. It has quite a bit of mythology in it; it ranges from the Enchantress Circe to the War Goddess Athena and sea demons. It is a very entertaining tale.

I haven't really read any books specifically on the subject of these mythologies, but I will look into your recommendations once I get the chance.
I remember that my text from the third unit of English classes contained the poem "Leda and the Swan" which I rather liked. Something bugs me though... did Zeus take her by force or was the intercourse consensual? I've seen it interpreted both ways so I am confused.

I've always loved Greek Mythology, but somehow, Edith Hamilton's version felt rather lacking to me...I'll make a note to check out some of the other novels mentioned here, since I need a Greek collection to put on my shelf...
So does anyone here have a particular myth which juts out in their minds?

I love learning about mythology of any sort. Right now I've been focusing on Egyptian mythology, but that's more because I haven't the money to buy many more books than I've already got. If anyone could recommend some good websites that deal with mythology, I'd be quite grateful.

AMG. biggrin Richard Buxton is one of my lecturers at Bristol University. :3 He's so awesome, and once you've had a lecture by him, you can't help but hear his voice in your head when you read his books. He's one of those lecturers who you could happily listen to for hours. And yarr, I'm in love with Greek & Roman myth, since I study it at uni. razz I've read his book about it. There's another book which talks about theories of myth in general, but often with examples from Greek & Roman myth called Sacred Narrative, edited by Alan Dundes, I found all of the articles in there interesting, but some of them are very interesting.
