I need some advice because I'm not sure what I should do. Here's what's happening exactly.
I am 16 years old, a Sophomore, and I'm in a homeschool program (not for reasons like I was picked on, but because the teachers are terrible and can't get the fricken' grades correct anymore). Whether I know it or not, I'm apparently much brighter and further ahead than nearly all of the other students in my grade and even above.
What my dilemma is, is that my teacher (or supervisor, not quite sure) is giving me the opportunity to test out of high school and go straight to college curriculum, which I would do at home. Now, obviously, this is a fantastic honor. It should be a no-brainer to some people. But I'm having major trouble deciding between the two.
On the one hand, I could stay and finish out my high school work naturally and be ready for college when most people are. The high school work is tedious and small enough that it allows me to put it off and have some time with my family (which is what I did this month, to my mistake, because I had to take Star tests too, but I'm finished with the daily work now).
On the other hand, this opportunity for college is one that not too many people get to enjoy. If I wasn't ready for college work, then they probably wouldn't pose this choice for me. Plus, it's at home, so I wouldn't have to deal with a daily commute to college, and I'll be ready to take jobs or go to a real college when I'm done with the homework.
So, you can see what my problem is by now, I hope. Should I stay or should I go on? How will it affect my future? I won't make my decision solely on what everybody says in this thread, but some advice would definitely help me. I'm still at a complete loss. I just hope that the teacher doesn't want my decision by Monday.

Okay, I'm a tad confused.
Will you be earning college credits?

Ms. Malaise Okay, I'm a tad confused.
Will you be earning college credits? Most likely. I still haven't met with the teacher yet, and this is all coming secondhand from my mom. I would definitely assume that I would be getting credit though.

As a parent myself, I would offer this for your consideration:
College is about the academics, sure, but it's also much more. When I went away to college, I grew up out of necessity. I was suddenly on my own, having to get myself out of bed in the morning, get my assignments done on time, find my way around, make new friends, do laundry, etc. I don't see how you'll get that if you stay at home for college.
It's fantastic that you're so bright! My own kids are, too. But I wouldn't want them to stay at home for college. They'd be missing so much.

I agree with Fresnel. The college experience is amazing. I would wait it out and not start college until you actually can go away someplace to college.

My personal plan for such things is to go to trade school after high school... get a job. Wait until I'm financially solid enough to finance a college education as well as until I'm mature enough to do it. I dunno if this is good for you, dude, but I'd say go with what feels right and you dont' think you'd regret later.

I would stick with hs for now if I were you and go away to college. However, it may not be a bad idea to get a few college credits beforehand. It will make life easier when you get there because it'll give you some more breathing room. This is a decision you should definately put a lot of thought into though. The thing about taking college courses is that if you have no direction you won't get anywhere. You have to have at least a vague idea of what you want to do or else you'll end up with a lot of wasted credits... like me.
