Finando snarled, his fur rippling in anger. If Nalira's 'bodyguard' wasn't going to move then he'd make him move. Readying himself for an attack, Finando took one last look at the young, naive boy infront of him and cocked his head to the side.
"Have it your way, then." He whispered menacingly, smirking as he launched forward. His claws ripped viciously at the ground as he hurtled towards Lance, his teeth bared. He closed his eyes on impact, ripping and snapping at anything he could sink his teeth into. Knight or not, he wasn't giving up until the both of them were on the ground, dead.
- - -
Nalira stirred, rubbing at her eyes. She slowly lifted herself onto her knees, squinting up at the hazy figures infront of her. She frowned, scratching and the dry blood around her mouth before a sudden realization dawned on her. Finando was going to battle Lance. Finando was going to battle Lance to the death.
"Oh dear lord.." She whispered, her breath faltering. "Finando, leave him alone. I'm the one you want, it's me .. Nalira trailed off as Finando launched himself at Lance, lowering her hands, defeated. Nalira stood quickly, rushing forward frantically.
"Let go of him, you monster." She screamed, her foot colliding with his stomach repeatedly. She kicked, punched, ripped, clawed, scratched, and bit the wolf in a desperate attempt to stop him hurting, or worse, killing Lance. He wanted her, not him. She couldn't watch him die, she wouldn't watch him die.

Lance's sword flashed out as the wolf barrelled towards him, driving his sword towards the creature's gnashing teeth. He was thrown back by the force of the other's impact, but only just managed to keep his balance. He wrenched his sword back, before swinging it forward towards the animals neck as Finando's teeth bit deep into his shoulder. A cry of pain was wrenched from his lips from this, but he would not give in, and he struggled to lunge his own blade deep into the other's body.
From somewhere he heard Nalira scream, and for a moment, he was distracted, his eyes turning to watch as she joined fighting with the wolf.
"Nalira!" he cried, "Nalira run!"
He doubted she'd listen to him, so he returned his attention to where it needed to be; fighting for his life, and hers.

As Finando turned, Nalira realized something very quickly. She could barely protect herself, let alone hurt someone else. Actually, she amended as her body was slammed against the ground – not a very pleasant experience; the back of her neck was grinding against a rock – Nalira couldn't defend herself, period.
She closed her eyes and counted to ten, praying and wishing and hoping that maybe when she opened them it would all turn out to just be a bad hallucination. That it was all a dream. That she had a brain tumor. Something, anything.
.... 8... 9... 10. She opened her eyes. No such luck.
"Okay," she whispered, her voice flat. When Finando returned his attention to Lance, Nalira threw herself off the ground and ran. She ran and ran and ran and ran until her chest constricted and she collapsed, struggling to breathe. She squeezed her eyes shut, shaking her head. No, she thought, this isn't happening, this isn't happening.
Nalira opened her eyes suddenly and frowned. She was upright and unhurt. Wait, she thought, that's not right. She whirled around, watching as Lance turned to leave. "Wait," she said suddenly, moving forward to touch his shoulder.

Not only was Lance upright, and completely unhurt, he was walking with an air of carefree non-chalonce, a small smile on his face, and seeming to be completely alright with everything entirely. He blinked a bit as he felt a hand upon his shoulder, and turned his head so that his crimson gaze rested upon Nalira.
The smile upon his lips widened a bit, and he turned entirely so that he could give her his full attention.
"Hello again, lady Nalira," he greeted, slipping his hands out of the pockets of his jeans to give her a polite bow.

Nalira paused, ridiculously aware of her chest rising and falling. It was like a slap to the face, hearing Lance say that.
"Hi," Nalira replied dryly. "I – have you forgotten already?" She paused. "Of course you haven't, it only just happened. But, I mean, there's not even a scratch on you. How did you manage to come out so unharmed?" She shook her head, laughing bitterly.
"Forget I asked. I'm uh, sorry I left you to fight alone. I, well you told me to run. I didn't want to," Nalira swallowed. "Thank you." She looked at the ground, mentally kicking herself. Well, you handled that well, she thought sardonically. Coming back to reality, Nalira jerked her hand from his shoulder.

Lance wasn't quite sure as to how he was supposed to respond to the girl, as she obviously seemed to think he'd done... something. And she was thanking him for whatever he'd done?
"Uh..." was all he managed at first, giving her a quizical stare, before coughing slightly, and blushing as he looked away.
"I- I'm sorry... But I'm not really sure what you're thanking me for..." he murmured quietly, his head dropping to stare at the concrete beneath his feet.

"Huh," Nalira replied noncommittally.
"For saving me from the wolf," She continued quietly. "Don't you remember?" Her voice was soft and hurt. She watched him carefully, feeling herself visibly tense. Had she imagined it all?
Maybe she was insane. Insanity seemed the only explanation, really. It was either that or some very strange dream. Nalira brushed a hand over the back of her neck, wincing at the slight burn. Okay, so it wasn't a dream. Therefore she had to be insane, not to mention having hallucinations.
Then again, maybe it wasn't her; maybe the entire world had gone insane while she was sleeping. Maybe Lance had simply forgotten, or maybe Lance was insane.
Or maybe, just maybe, the entire world had been insane all along and she was only now seeing how screwed up it really was.

And here Lance had thought he'd been about as confused as he could get.
He stared at her as she fabricated a tale about him alledgedly saving her from some wolf, even though he couldn't remember doing any such thing in the short time that he had encountered, and conversed with her. Perhaps there was something wrong with the poor girl's head. Maybe- Maybe he should humor her?
No. He decided that that would probably just make it worse.
"Listen... Nalira, was it?" he murmured, slowly bringing his gaze up to meet her eyes, "I'm not quite sure what you think it is I've done- but I can honestly tell you that I haven't saved you from any wolf..." As an afterthought, he added an apology, as if it would make the situation less awkward somehow, "I'm sorry," he mumbled.
