02.6.06

Your connection letter came through without any difficulties, so i am assuming that everything is secure for the moment.

First of all, I cannot not tell you where I am, for reasons stated in my last transmission. I can only offer you guidance, and hopefully, some strength.

Yggdrasial weathered the bumpy trip just fine, but I was constantly worried that the next bump in the road would finish him off. Yggdrasial had consented to wearing a robe for the trip, in order to mask his strangeness. There was a tense moment when a portion of the cloth tore off, but I was able to talk myself out of the situation fairly well (yes, I do pride myself on that point).

We finally reached the end of the road, and I paid the driver. He drove off, and Yggdrasial and I waited in the bushes, making sure that he didn't return. Yggdrasial started to make odd gasping sounds, and I realized that we had to hurry to That Tree. It was still several miles away, and Yggdrasial was steadily growing weaker. It came to the point that i had to hoist him on my back, and carry him for the remaining distance. Although it was hard going, Yggdrasial's bones are far lighter than regular humans, and that made it a little easier on my back.

When we finally made it to That Tree, Yggdrasial tore off his cloak, and raced, gasping to the tree.

What I am about to write here is extraordinary, and may seem foolish, fantasies created in my mind due to exhaustion. You know what you are growing, do not be deluded by thinking literally!

He waas sucked in to the tree. As odd as it sounds, the great tree started to glow a faint greenish tinge, and a hole formed in the lower trunk. Yggdrasial rushed inside, and the tree closed with an audible 'gulp'.

I started, but i stopped as i realized the tree was budding. A great green blossom erupted from the side of the tree, and I was astonished. Not only was this the great tree of legend, it also seemed to be healing Yggdrasial as well.

I must have sat in the same spot for hours, watching as Yggdrasial "bloomed" out of the tree. I wa surprised to see that he looked the same, I was expecting some sort of extraordinary change in him to occur, but that wasn't the case.

Finally, Yggdrasial stepped back on to the solid dirt, and slowly bowed to the great tree. The leaves rustled, and the boughs seemed to bow in return.

Yggdrasial turned to me, and smiled.

"Matir has cured me, and she has started the preparations to cure the other children."

"Cure?" I replied faintly. The tree behind Yggdrasial was groaning. Loudly.

"Yes. She is too far away to cure us of this 'pollution', but she is the greatest power, and she is ready to move."

"Move?" I asked, even more faintly. The ground had begun to shake.

"Yes," Yggdrasial smiled even wider, "Matir wishes to join us in the human world!"

And, I swear, at that very moment, the giant tree took a rumbling step towards us

02.20.06

My letter was cut off short on the last transmission, as you recall. Yggdrasial had... distracted me, and I had to leave. Ahem.

From what I could ascertain at that point, that tree had not moved, but its roots has lifted from the ground. The roots were 20 feet in diameter, at least, and they were writhing, moving like great snakes across the Vale. I watched as they neared the entrance, and vanished below earth once more.

I turned to Yggdrasial with the question in my eyes. He nodded, understanding. He has been understanding far more that words from me lately, and I wonder if this is a latent talent of his... Could you perhaps test this thesis, Dr. Natsube? I currently do not have the supplies needed to do so.

Yggdrasial sat down beside, and we watched in silence as the plants on the mother tree slowly withered and died, falling from the tree.

"What is it... she... doing?" I asked quietly.

Yggdrasial stared down at me(my, is he tall!) and smiled sadly.

"In order to save her children that live in your world, Matir is changing to fit in to your world. She is sacrificing her new children to your cause."

I looked at the fruits and flowers in surprise.

"But, why? Can I not pick up those seeds and send them to the lab, and raise more?"

Yggdrasial shook his head.

"To grow at such a fast rate, Matir has to receive a massive amount of energy. Energy that she does not currently have, as long as she's blooming. The children that rested on her vines have effevtively died. You can plant them, but they will be normal, without Matirs essence within them."

I looked up, and bit my lip.

"Is that what we're doing? Raising little world trees?"

Yggdrasial shook his head.

"No, we're...." Yggdrasial got up suddenly, and sniffed the air. His eyes flashed, and he scooped me up.

"Ooomph." I muttered as I was thrown on his back like a sack of potatoes.

"Yggdrasial, what are you-" I stopped as Yggdrasial raised his hand, and pointed.

Far off in the distance, strange birds were flying out of the trees, as if they had been surprised.

Yggdrasial didn't wait a second more, but took off in the opposite direction, towards the entrance to the Vale.

Now, it may sound sort of heroic, but let me tell you, this ride was no walk in the park. Yggdrasial's strides are long, and thus, very bumpy. My head was constantly thumping in to the small of his back, and I knew I would have bruises once we stopped. What I could see though, in the seconds that my head was not forced in to his back, was horrifying.

The Vale was on fire.

Again, I was distracted. Did you know that the ancestors of the platypus were actually a beaver and a duck? They met in the vale!

Sorry, off topic again. Yggdrasial really is a well of information, and I have come to think of him as a friend, not just my scientifac experiment that would win me a place in the history books. Now, my only goal is to make sure that there is still a history to be made.

-----------------------------------------------------

Flames were licking at the edges of the clearing where that tree sat, and Yggdrasial turned back, the flames echoing in his eyes. He turned, and I could see that there was turmoil going on inside of him. He closed his eyes, and slowly lowered me to the ground.

"I am sorry." He said, and started to run back to the tree, back to the flames that threatened to kill us both.

"Go, go now!!! The Vale will always be open to you!"

Yggdrasial had stopped, and was yelling to me from a distance.

"Oh, I like that! What if there is no Vale to come to anymore? I can't just leave!!"

"Yes, you can!"

I stood up, and started walking towards him. As I neared, he took a step back, and I grimaced.

"That's right! I am not to be talked to like a common chi-"

Again, Yggdrasial grabbed me, again, we took off towards the entrance.

But this time, Yggdrasial threw me through the portal, and I watched, as I turmbled through the air, as the portal closed on Yggdrasial, and the creature that stood behind him.

I had never seen a creature such as that, and I hope to never see it again, but I do not believe that I, or even we, will have a choice in the matter.

You see, the gods...

---------------------------------------------------

Again, interruptions. Let me explain: I am telling you what has happened in chrnological order, but Yggdrasial is letting me know that it might be too late for me to tell you everything.

I cannot speak of what has happened in full, because most you wouldn't understand, and most of what i have seen is too... extraordinary to be believed.

I have very important work that has to be done, but Yggdrasial is pressing me to return to the lab. We have found out some new information that could be devastating to our research.

Natsube, I am returning to the lab. There will be no more messages until we meet, and I shall see you on the Ides of March

Be well.

I am sorry for the delays, but many things have happened since my last message, terrifying things that make me tremble as I pen this letter to you. My transmission centre is shut down, and I currently do not have the funds to create another. I regret not being able to make it last week, and I have to ask you to wait another couple of weeks for Yggdrasial and I to join you.

Please, do nothing to bring any attention to yourself. The world is rebelling around us, and if I have any say in the matter, it will stop.

I'm sorry for being short, and perhaps a little curt; I am under much strain.

I will see you talk to you later.
