I got into Jazz mainly from my older brother when he was in the Jazz band in school Then I joined and I have just grown to love it more. But I love playing it more so.

I "officially" got into jazz in the 10th grade. The jazz band needed a bari sax player badly for the second half of the year. My friend, who played tenor, recommended me to the director b/c I played 1st clarinet and had played since the 2nd grade. (Any clarinet/sax player can understand that if you can play one, you can play the other fairly easy) The director agreed to take me on as long as I agreed to take private lessons. I was thrilled to have been asked and have loved the bari sax ever since! heart

As for the music of jazz... I feel like I have an "old soul" in the way that I have never really gotten into "popular" music. Don't get me wrong... I love all types of music and am into current stuff too. The difference is... you can't go wrong with Big Band Jazz!

i was asked to join an unconventional jazz band in seventh grade (aka clarinets and flutes instead of saxes and trumpets) at the end of the year my band teacher asked me to learn the alto sax for "real" jazz band the next year. i moved and went to a different school the band director found out i played sax and told me i would be playing bari in the jazz band. ive been playing for four years now made it into the higher jazz band my freshman and sophmore year and am loving it.

I never listened to Jazz, nor had interest in it[Only had interest for classical music, like Concert Band music. = ] before I joined Jazz band. xD Now I love it.

I was originally into classic punk, and then grunge and stuff. Playing guitar and learning so much musical theory is wat really go tme into jazz. That and picking up Clarinet and wanting to incorporate it into my songs.
