It just occurred to me that art is an anagram of rat. Anyway, here is some recent work: Eat my brains. What ideas work, what is bullshit? Drawing and something very important to me coming soon.

Your first painting is interesting, the concept seems really cool but I'm kind of put off by the quality of the work ~ I didn't notice the Lady Liberty crown (that's what I'm guessing that is) until awhile after I started looking at the picture. Unless that was the effect you were trying to get, I'd suggest you maybe contrast the colours in the face/crown with the colours in the background a little more, so your subject doesn't fade in to the background too much.
I like the dirty-ness of it though, maybe if you refined that a little more then the subject would be more powerful? Hmm. I also really like the words and the soldiers on the top of the painting, but I wish I could read the words a little better! XD
I think this piece could be really awesome if you developed it a little more. The image of Hitler is powerful alone, but this could be so much better if the painting techniques and color were just as powerful.
biggrin Is that teal typewriter yours? It's so so cute ~ 4laugh I love how colourful some of your photos are; this picture has so much character. smile
smile I love the photo of the suitcase (second to last), it's very charming and I really really like the different colours in it, the little bit of blue you see in the top-right corner is very nice and balances the whole picture out! heart Thanks for sharing your images ~ 4laugh

I don't like the painting, although this is down to personal taste more than the quality of the work - the 'symbolism' is so in your face that I'm just put off from the get-go.
At the same time, I really enjoy the photograph of the toy soldiers fighting. That one just seems to work for me. The other photography is also great, I love how you've made the most of existing colours - it's a refreshing change after piles and piles of monochrome one has to wade through. I'm not sure what you're trying to say with the shopping trolley, but I like it nonetheless.

I quite like the photo of what I can only assume is your workspace.
There are hints as to why your work is so odd wink
Anyhow. Pretty much the save thing that T.V said. Keep up the stuff.

with some of your installation type pieces, the desk and the suitcase for example, it very difficult to differentiate the piece from it's surroundings or keep focused on the piece itself. you may need to set up more of a studio for the purposes of photographing you're stuff, maybe hanging a bunch of white sheets in a corner of a room or something. or something.
you could also just try working on the quality of your photos. Quick digital camera pics are okay for WIPS, but to showcase a piece, they dont cut it.

Studio space is a bit of a problem right now. At college I get a 1.5m square space consisting of two boards, a desk, chair and easel.
I can see where you're coming from with the Hitler comments. I find him a fascinating character but the blatantly obvious isn't always very interesting.
The shopping trolley might make more sense if I tell you what the books are. There's one on looking after babies, one on debt advice, one on tenancy law, the social contract, almost everyone's guide to economics and a postcard book by David Shrigley. I'm not always very good at explaining meaning in direct relation to my work but it was about the necessary and manmade evils in life originally, the problems we create. The trolley is meant to be a life's worth of essential shopping.
Oh and yes, the typewriter is mine 3nodding They're so much better than computers although really frustrating sometimes. Its just a process that you can get more involved with, its a lot more fun.
Sorry about the slow response, I've been disconnected from the internet.
Anywho no art today because I've just been working on my portfolio recently, apart from today where I made things out of play doh for some light relief. My interview for uni is tomorrow. I'll be getting back into the swng of things after that hopefully.
