Starlight wondered what to do, so she lay down on the grass and stared at the sky, like she had done long ago with her friend. Where was she now? She had to wonder.
Yunalesca found a cave, and wanted to go inside. Fish darted away as she entered, and inside she found a pretty stone lodged into the wall. She began to pull at it.
Hira was having no luck. Being underwater...sis must be lucky. There's so much to see down there... She shook herself out of it, and continued to search.

Wathcing the clouds, she began to make shapes with them. She smiled and giggled, as she thought she saw a cloud that looked like one she had seen with her friend. Impossible, of course, but it looked so much like it...she had to assume.
Yunalesca continued to pull, bubbles of effort emerging from her mouth. Slowly, the stone was moving out of it's hole within the wall. She smiled in triumph as she only had a little way to go.
Hira found something really pretty. It was a flower, a small flower, but it looked so pretty and lonely. It was on it's own...she couldn't see another flower anywhere else. She picked it up, and found that it was a barette that another person might have dropped. She smiled and placed it in her hair.

Starlight went over to her sister, Hira and called out to her. "Hey...are you alright?" She always felt as if she ahd to protect them for some reason.
Yunalesca, after pulling out the stone, surfaced and placed it on the side. "Hey Hira...come and see!"
Hira called back to Starlight. "I'm good thanks!" She then flew over to the pond. "I found this barette...wow, pretty stone!"

Starlight saw her sister return. "Wow, you've grown!" She smiled at Yunalesca. She deserved to grow. Definately. Sometimes, though, she doubted her own worth for growing up and moving fast. Did she, have reasons far superior to her sisters' and friends? She knew that some of her friends wanted to help everyone move on into the world...yet they never grew. But she....she would never know why. Yunalesca was proud of her growth. Now that she was older, surely she would get more responsiblilites? She hoped that Starlight and her friends would view her as an equal...unlike before where she felt like they looked down upon her. Hira sighed and stared down at her shoes, the blades of grass like skyscrapers above her head. Why her? She knew she was the youngest, but now she felt left out and alone. No more games with Yunie...right?

Starlight lay on her side, watching the wind sway through the flowers. She saw all the petals almost dust the surface, a rosy pink aura emitting from the whole area. A petal flew past her, almost triggering her times with past friends.
Yunalesca decided to celebrate her new-found status with a swim. She felt more powerful and bigger than ever before, even daring to explore them dark caves she had once been scared to think about. She swam rapidly to the surface in excitment, bubbling flowing alongside her. She lept from the pond in a dolphin-like manner. "Whee!" She exclaimed once underwater, only a soundless bubble emerged.
Hira flew over to Starlight. "Hey..." She sighed and buried her face into her hand. "It's so unfair!" She cried. "Why not me!" She felt all her emotions boiling to the surface-Anger, Hate, Jelousy, Desire.

Starlight looked over at her little sister, raising her to eye-level. "There there..." she patted her gently. "You'll grow soon...but you must remember. Wishing to grow up will just mean you waste the youth you have been given. Cherish every seccond of your life-never waste anything. Promise me that?"
Yunalesca was too wrapped up in her happiness to notice her sister crying. She sat on the surface, flicking her tail and admiring the new outfit her sister had brought for her as a birthday present. She held that barrette Hira had found her in her hand. She placed it in her hair; family meant a lot to her.
Hira listened carefully, and wiped the remains of a tear from her eye. "You're right. I'm sorry."

Starlight wandered aimlessly across the fields, the grass tickling her bare feet. How long had it bee since they had last come here...? Days, weeks, months...? She no longer knew. Either way, she dipped her bare feet into the pond, watching them move slowly through the crystal clear water. Yunalesca was happy to be here again, to say the least. The water here was lovely and cool...she pushed off the grassy surface where Starlight was sitting and pushed herself into the water. Her hair streaming down her back, she proceeded into the depths. Hira fluttered down to the water's edge, watching her sister dissapaear. She gazed, almost trasfixed, into the deep pool. It seemed to span forever, deeper, and deeper...she wanted go do down there, see everything... Aerith, however, was far from the water. She was deep within the heart of the field, looking at the sea of coloured flowers than spanned across her horizon. She watered them, and cared for them, with no flower being overlooked.

Starlight pulled her sketchpad out from her bag, and she flipped through her previous drawings. Memories of the visits she had made...she leafed through to a new page, picked up a pencil from out of her tin and started to sketch the scenery around her. Yunalesca ventured deeper into the underwater scenery, through caves...it had been forever since she had come. Trying to push forward a little more, she found herself stuck as her tail had got caught in a patch of seaweed. Leaning over, she started to unknot gently the seaweed that had trapped her. Hira fluttered through the air, her feet barely skimming the grassy slopes. Reaching Starlight, she peered over her shoulder and watched her sketch for a few minutes. Getting bored with the stillness of it all, she landed in the large oak, gazing down onto the landscape beyong, her breath taken by the overwhelming beauty of it all. Aerith watched her sisters go about their separate tasks, each of their personalities determing how they acted. She saw the flowers before her as they swished gently to and fro in the sunny breeze of the day. After tending to the flowers, she flew down to the lake, and skimmed over it, her wings fluttering like crazy just to avoid falling in.

Starlight was deeply engrossed in her work. Changing her pencil to a softer lead, she glanced freqently to the landscape she was sketching, then back to her piece of paper. The wind rustled her grassy hair gently and she smiled to herself, being so close to nature made her feel great. Yunalesca had to be careful. If she pulled or acted too quickly, the seaweed would tighten and she would be stuck down here until another mermaid came. She looked intently at the fronds of seaweed looping themselves over her, and she began to unloop them. Yunalesca liked a puzzle, this was just another day for her. Hira had taken to trying to climb the tree herself instead of using her wings to reach the top. She found it entertaining, except for when she slipped she nearly fell on top of Starlight, only to flutter her wings at the last minute and start again. the bark was really rough and left drty brown marks all over her hands, but still she tried to climb the tree. She really wanted to see the view from the top. Aerith lowered herself gently into the water, getting her clothes soaked but she didnt care. The water was lovely and cool; the perfect remedy to the hot summer day. She kicked her legs a little, but being small, she found it difficuly to keep her head above water. She held on to the side, being happy just to cling to the slope and kick her legs, to get some practice.

Starlight gazed at her picture for a seccond, then pulled out her eraser and began to scribble. She was finding it difficult to capture the mood of the scene, the quiet and peaceful beauty of the countryside was difficult to capture with a mere pencil and paper. But Starlight was prepared to try; she looked long and hard at the grassy slopes that surrounded both her and her sisters, her expression blank, all that was on her mind was absorbing all the scenery that she was sitting in. Yunalesca watched as the seaweed strands gently fell apart and she gently moved her tail free from the bed, and then picked up speed, entering a rocky tunnel that glistened with the distant light that fell through to this depth. The light was a pale blue, and looked beautiful on the white sand that was at the bottom of the lake. the black rock shone white where the light hit it, dazzling Yunalesca, yet she simply sat on the sand and gazed up at the cascade of light that she bathed in. Hira was getting higher and higher, yet the top of the tree was still far off. She paused for a rest in one of it's branches, as she dangled her legs off the side she looked at the leaves and blossoms that sprouted from it. The petals were a baby pink colour and every time the wind breezed by it swept her hair and a few of the petals gently drifted away with the breeze. Overall it was pretty wonderful, Hira thought. Re-energized by this short break, she stood up in the tree and re-attempted her climb. Sitting in the water, Aerith kicked as hard as she could but could only make ripples on the surface, she was so small. Yet she was determined to swim over to the other side without going under. She continued to practice, looking down at the beautiful lake bottom. She couldn't see all the way down, but she squinted and she thought she could see a figure, faintly lying on the sea bed. She couldn't really tell if it was a person or just her imagination, but she thought it might have been Yunalesca...regardless, she continued her practice.

Having finished a basic sketch of the landscape, Starlight rifled through her bag once more. Finally coming across the object she was searching for, she pulled the tin of watercolours out of her bag and closed it again. Taking a pot and filling it up with lake water, she dipped her paintbrush into it and began to colour her sketch with soft, watery tints, giving it a pale beauty that she had wanted within her picture. Yunalesca swam around the bottom of the lake, feeling some warmth on her face from where the sun shone through. Skimming over the sand, she felt her tail hit something gently. A small pink shell lay half- covered in sand, but the part that was exposed looked beautiful and glimmered in the scarce light that fell upon it. Yunalesca looked at it with awe and then began to prise it out of the sand. She thought it would look great in her hair...she continued to pull as she shell slowly inched its way free. Near the top of her climb, Hira spotted a couple of butterflies flying past her, so close to her that she could have reached out and touched their fragile wings. The two butterflies danced around each other and Hira, and Hira just stood and watched in silence, her one foot and hand on the next branch, ready to climb. As the two butterflies flew away into the distant flower meadow, Hira pushed herself up to the next branch and realised she was at the top of the tree. Feeling proud of herself, she surveyed the area and found that the climb was worth it for the spectacular view. Aerith was making progress, but it was still not enough. She could make it halfway across the pond before flying out for breath. She decided to give herself a break for a while, lowering herself onto the grass. She gazed up at the crystal blue sky that was above her head. The fluffy clouds looked really soft and white today...Aerith thought. She tried to trace shapes with her hand with the clouds, but the breeze meant that the clouds were marching across the sky briskly, so Aerith didn't have any time to make any shapes. Instead she dried off in the sun, just watching time go by in this expanse of what seemed to be never-ending grass.

Starlight got a little bored of painting, so she left her half-finished picture to dry in the sunlight and took a picnic basket out of her bag. She didn't know the time, but she was hungry so she stood up and blew out the red and white checked blanket, laying it down onto a flat piece of grass and smoothing it down so that there would be enough room for the four of them to sit on. Realising that Yunalesca would need to be near water, Starlight picked up the blanket and re-laid it at the lake's edge. She then began setting the plates and cutlery for everyone to eat. Yunalesca, having prised the shell free and placed in in her hair, she admired herself and ran her fingers through herself. It was a rare moment of vanity; but Yunalesca enjoyed it. She dozed around on the bottom layer of sand, not being bothered enough to expore today, the Sun always made her lazy. At night; the darkness always added a hint of risk to her adventure and she loved to explore then. For now though, she just daydreamed on the sea bed. Hira surveyed the landscape she had climbed so high to see. In one area of the field there were flowers, in all sorts of varying shapes, colours and sizes, so beautiful it almost seemed that someone had painted a rainbow on the grass. On another side, there was an endless sea of green grass, swaying perfectly in sync with the flowers and it danced as ripples of wind blew through it. Directly ahead of her was the lake, the crystal blue water reflecting the Sun's white halo and dazzling her, so she had to lift a hand to her eyes when she looked at it. Looking down, she noticed Starlight preparing the lunch. Better get down then, she thought. Aerith was laying there for a while, when she felt a ripple of wind come over her and the blades of grass that surrounded her moved uneasily as well. Feeling cold momentarily, she sat up, her tranquility from watching the clouds broken. As the breeze passed, the warmth returned, but she couldn't lie down again. Instead, she flew over the grass, her feet touching the tips of the blades as she flew.

Starlight, having finished preparing the lunch, she called out to her sisters who were above water. "Hira! Aerith! Come here, lunch is ready!" she could see Aerith sitting near the water's edge, and she thought Hira would be exploring somewhere, but since the whole field was so quiet, she knew that Hira would have heard her and would come from wherever she was. To get Yunalesca, Starlight used the same routine they always had. Grabbing the spare fork she had brought, she dropped it into the lake, knowing that Yunalesca would see its decent and surface. Yunalesca saw a flash and looked up. It was a fork, falling from the surface of the lake, bubbles streaming off it as it got lower and lower, the sunlight catching it and flashing in Yunalesca's eyes, drawing her attention. Obviously, Starlight or one of her sisters wanted her. Picking up the fork as it landed softly on the sand, she swam to the surface bursting through the skin in a show of water droplets and her shell flashing in the sunlight. "Hey!" She called.Hira heard the call clearly, as she was right above Starlight. Judging by Starlight's surveyance of the area, it was obvious to Hira that Starlight didn't know where she was. She fluttered down off the tree gently, she knew that climing down would take too long. Padding gently on the tips of her feet, she walked quietly to behind Starlight. "Boo!" She cried happily, suddenly putting her hands on Starlight's shoulders and feeling her jump from underneath them, also hearing a half- frightened wimper emerge from Starlight's mouth. "Did I scare you?" she asked. Aerith heard the call and flew over to where the picnic blanket lay, and she found a nice spot where she could place her feet in the water but still be able to eat. She gently landed in the place that she had found and watched as Hira jumped out at Starlight, and then watched in amazement as Yunalesca burst out of the water, fork in hand, in a shower of water droplets, some of which landed on Aerith and made dark spots on her clothing.

When Hira shocked her like that, she dropped the empty picnic basket she was holding and it fell to the floor with a slight bump as it hit the grassy surface. Wheeling around to see who it was, she looked at Hira and started to giggle. "You scared me so much, I thought you were some kind of robber or something!" She laughed, and then sat down in one corner of the red-and-white-checked picnic basket, allowing her three sisters to sit in the other corners. "Come on, dinner's ready, I want to eat!" She smiled and started to help herself to some bread, placing two slices onto the white plate's reflective surface gently and then making herself a sandwich by putting some cheese and cucumbers inbetween the bread, replacing the lids on all of the tupperware boxes to keep the food fresh and free from insects. Yunalesca watched as Hira made Starlight jump, and she laughed a little herself, hoisting herself onto the edge of the picnic basket so her tail was still submerged in the water's embrace. She wrung her hair over the lake to make sure it didn't drip as much everywhere and she craned her neck around to chat to her sisters. "How long has it been....how long has it been since we all sat down like this, eating together? Or just doing something together?" She questioned her sisters. She herself couldn't think of the last time all of them had been together, except for that day at the seaside, however they hardly spoke to each other that day and just went off to do their own thing. It was nice that, for once, all of the family were together. Hira beamed proudly and sat on another corner of the blanket, in between Starlight and Yunalesca, opposite Aerith. "Wow Starlight, you've brought nearly all the food we had at home with us!" She joked lightly and she then started to place a couple of buffet sausage rools onto her plate, and she then pulled Starlight's bag from next to Starlight and rummaged through it, finally producing four glasses and some orange juice. Setting the glasses down on the blanket, she poured a drink for all four of them and then returned the bottle to Starlight's bag and Hira threw it gently so it landed next to Starlight. Hira then lifted up her glass and took a long sip of the orange liquid, the taste cool and refreshing to her lips. Aerith watched quietly as the joke was pulled and then she gazed up at her three older sisters. Hearing Yunalesca's question, she hoped that she wouldn't have to answer because it had not been long since she had arrived in this world, and Aerith knew little of what hre three sisters had done before she had arrived. When a large glass of orange juice was set in front of her by Hira, she smiled and said "Thank you" politely. Gazing down at the buffet of assorted foods, Aerith wondered which she should eat first.
