"Oh, good grief. Well, if it was an angel, it can't be more than mischevious, I suppose. I'll be back in awhile, be safe."

And with that, Sidra trotted out into the garden, keeping a careful eye on the sky. She traced her steps back to where she'd found Toro- making much better time without the foal in tow. Sniffing the ground, she discovered the young colt's tracks and, fresh as they were, she was able to follow them backwards.

Eventually, she came upon a place where the ground had been torn as if by talons. A small amount of blood stained the ground and there was fur- smoky black and firey red both- scattered about, along with a single ruddy feather of the sort a hawk might shed as it stooped upon hapless prey.

Though Sidra tried, she was unable to discover any tracks leading away from the scene, though it was concievable that she had missed them or that the hawk had picked up it's prey and dropped it a small distance away. She was unable to prove for certain whether Toro's parents yet lived, though she was sure in her heart that they could not have survived.

With heavy steps, Sidra turned to return to the spinach patch to report her findings to Galaen. She had no idea what they were going to tell poor Toro!

Galaen looked out across the garden, thinking of how quickly life can change. As the weeks had passed Sidra and the scamp Toro had found their way merrily into his heart, much to the delight of his erstwhile companion Deolna. The flowerling had quite enjoyed the instant family Gala had found himself with, and somewhat to his own surprise the angel who had spent so very long a loner was now quite content with companionship.

There had been a few surprises, however. The giggles had turned out to be one of his own kind. A very... young.... angel in fact. The dappled stallion still wasn't sure why the young one was here, he really didn't say, - just that he "was suppose to be". The fact that the young one refused to be seen by the others had caused more than one moment of confusion as well. Toro was still thinking there was a reason Gala had been talking to that one particular clover flower!

And Toro's parents.... Sidra's news wasn't a surprise, though it hadn't been as final as it might have been. There was after all, always hope that they might have escaped.

Sidra was also in a thoughtful mood, though she was engaged in finding dinner at the time. It had been several weeks since she'd abruptly acquired a new family. She was actually quite proud of herself that she hadn't run off screaming into the daisies very early into the game.

Now, it seemed as natural as if they'd always been together. Toro remained a bit fey and distant, prone to singing those strange songs which seemed to be his method of emoting. She felt as open and safe with Galaen as if she'd known him all her life rather than the few short weeks they'd been friends. Though, he did seem a little distracted at times, and prone to talking to himself. The clover incident had been a little disconcerting, honestly, but he'd seemed fine afterwards.

Deolna was another welcome addition to the group. He was an excellent babysitter and seemed quite happy to encourage Galaen's involvement. Sidra was quite grateful to the flowerling for that, on a number of levels.

The blue-swirled mare roused from her reverie as a snatch of song from a familiar voice drifted across the clover.

It was all such a blur. It was almost like his life before Gala and Sidy never happened. He loved them, but he still felt...different. "Please don't let them leave me." Toro would always think to himself. It was so confusing for him, and he hoped it was something that would make more since when he got older; he felt so alone, but not alone. It was almost like someone was always with him, but just out or reach. He just couldn't find any clear understanding, so he returned to his song.
"Gala, should I be doing more with my Gift? Can you teach me a song for one of the gods or goddesses?"

"You can learn to use your Gift at your own pace, Toro," Galaen said as he walked alongside the young colt. The red one was growing rapidly it seemed, each day discovering new things about his gift and the world as well. "I will be happy to teach you about the Mother and the other Immortal ones though. There are many of them, and some have been known to walk in the gardens here on occasion. The Samhain god has been seen around, and not long ago I thought I felt the apporach of another."
The grey angel shivered a little at the memory of the dream that had harbored the approach of the new god. That one was going to be something different for sure!
"There are a more of us angels of course, and our counterpoints the demons as well. In fact, my good friend the Angel of Death may be able to help us find out about your parents if you wish!" Gala didn't know why he hadn't thought of going to see her sooner. Thana was the logical choice to discover the truth of whether Toro's parents had survived the hawk's attack.
"But you wanted a song of a goddess, I believe... here is one that I love to sing sometimes. It's one for the Mother" Gala lifted his baritone in song

For She will bring the buds in Spring
and laugh amid the flowers
In Summer's heat, Her kisses are sweet,
She sings in leafy bowers
She brings the rain and gathers the grain
when fruits of Fall surround Her,
Her bones grow old in Wintery cold,
She wraps her cloak around Her

"Oh, this might not be good." Iero thought to himself. "Thana doesn't always like being bothered." Quick as a blink he was off. Soon he found Sidra and Gala sleeping quite cozily together. "Gala!" The young Angel screamed. "Toro snuck off and is calling for Thana. Just thought you might want to do something!"
