Let's say I start an auction at a non-inflated price, but due to the auction being successful/popular/whatever, the bidding ends at a price that's well over the item's worth. Would I have caused natural or artificial inflation?
For example, let's say I auctioned a Nitemare Scarf at 600k. They're worth about 700k right now, with AI prices being between 800k-1.2 mil.

If it's just one item in a non-marketplace auction, I wouldn't consider it AI. But I don't know why someone is gonna pay over mp, and I don't generally think it's a good idea.

I can't believe they've got the sort of gold to be able to artificially inflate the scarves that much! They must be rich crying

I mean, if I wanted to I could inflate the March 04s higher. Currently there are only a few selling for about the 40K range. If I were to buy the few and then price them off as 60K range, it is very simple.
Of course I haven't done anything like that, but things are definitely not going the Anti-Inflation direction.

If that's how you all feel, how can one be an exchange whore without aritificially inflating something, and how can supply and demand (apart donation items and seasonal items) NOT result in inflation? I don't think everybody's on the same definition of inflation and AI anymore... confused

Nope, not everyone has the same definition. To that I agree. Which is why I tend to just give deals to those that need it. Of course I tend to work out certain things there too.
Though I am very evil about it, in December I risked a December 03 for 40K. The reason it is so low is because there is a riddle attached to it. Meaning a person can buy it, if they solve the riddle. The greater the item, the harder the puzzle/riddle would be. Pretty much saying that if they can solve it, they deserve it.
That is how I value my items now and then.

I don't usualy post in L.A.I.D but just read up on your plans and pm people about things. However i just thought i'd let you know that between 7 of their members they have confirmed themselves to having a minimun of 32million gold worth. They also confirmed to have over 60 active members in one of their guilds.

I hate people who play with gold continuously... see this was my point xyze... they are nt buying up 03 yet... they are just building there gold... so that they will be able to afford much bigger items later on. These sucky people.

InnocentBlackShadow - I agree. They are merely building up right now. However, if the older ones who leaves that are actually considering selling those things leave. It gives them fewer things to play with, and so that even if they have millions and millions worth of gold and items, they would not be able to buy them. As it will come to that point one day. It can be noticed even now, that the only ones playing around with the 03 items would be individuals such as myself who already have them. Technically I do not play around with those as much anymore since I do not even have to. Meaning, my items they can not buy no matter how much gold or items they have.
See what I mean? It gives the older ones less need to use their 03s to begin with. That is, beyond the November 03.
Older individuals who have the 03 items would not see the need to sell their old old items as much any more when the 04s can do the same thing back then. They can make a profit out of the 04s. Which is pretty much why I know that 03s are getting less and less play around the market. It just does not need to be used any more.
Let me simplify: 1 - Oldbies who leave in disgust take their items with them. 2 - Oldbies who have the items, also have the newer items and will have less and less reason to play their 03 items, with the rising 04 and 05 prices. Making them scarcer along the market. Case in point me, I do not need to use my 03 items any more to try to buy things. I have my June, July, August 04s to put in play for pretty decent profit if I need to. 3 - There will come a time, and with the price shifts this crazy that I believe it will be soon that they even with millions of gold and items would not be able to afford or find the items they are looking for.
One must always consider that 03 items tend not to really play by gold any more. They play by ratio of items. They will be hurting themselves as well, while making everyone else miserable.
People tend to look at the immediate profit without thinking beyond that.
