Yes, airforce_freak6678, it's covered under Tricare Prime, but only Lasik.

Hello, everyone. I'm Ranuu (or Devon, it doesn't matter), and I'm currently based at Eglin AFB, FL. It's so humid here, but actually a lot cooler than Lackland, so that's cool. I graduated basic on July 2nd, got to go around San Antonio on the 4th of July weekend. My first day of tech school (at Medina, just right outside Lackland) was a half-day. It was fun.

After getting through the prelim. course, I'm at Eglin waiting to get into NAVSCOLEOD to begin training as an EOD tech =] can't wait.

Hey Ranuu are you sure about that? Three people in my unit have gotten the free eye surgery and they all got PRK.

Which really, if you're gonna get one, that's the one I'd go for. That way you don't have to worry about the flap in your eye flopping open some day. Lmao. Gross.

I could be wrong, but that's what I was told in basic. Haha, I don't need eye surgery, so I didn't really look into it. I just wanted to supply an answer =X lol

^I know this all happend last year, but to the people interested in LASIK/PRK, either one is free provided it's done at a military hospital- there's just only a few hospitals that do it. I'm fortunate enough to be stationed at Travis AFB, and our hospital is one of the few that does it. This may be the only time you will ever hear me say being stationed at Travis is "fortunate."

They do CustomVue LASIK/PRK surgery which is where they map your retina and use that info in reshaping your cornea (traditional LASIK/PRK just reshaped your cornea and hoped for the best). I had PRK done in November 2007 and went from not being able to see the giant "E" at the top of the chart to having 20/15 in my left eye and 20/18 in my right.

Totally worth it, I had been wearing glasses since I was in 1st grade.
