Journal Entry "Coming Home..."
* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *
Giraffes could walk minutes after their birth, and these little ones weren't an exception! Just a half hour into the walk home and they were already wiggling around in Ballentine's arms to be let down. She eventually did just that, and to ever her astonishment the little babies got up to their feet and took their first steps. Ok so their steps weren't perfect yet, in fact whenever one took a tumble, the other was soon to follow.
Ballentine took to leading Shakina and Kito, glancing back every now and then to make sure the two were following. A small giggle escaped her lips as she noticed Shakina kicking her foot out in such a way that Kito's steps jumbled together and took him down yet again. The fall count? Shakina 11, Kito 27.
The game played on, even as the trio walked up the driveway. It was then that Ballentine noticed the two had their heads hanging, a large yawn coming from Kito. Well... At least they'll sleep well tonight. Ballentine thought as she paused in walking.
"Ok kiddos...." Ballentine said as she squatted down near them. "Time for a ride..." Both were once more taken into her arms, a small grunt coming from the woman as she stood. She already couldn't do this for long! Or at least not both at the same time. Babies or not, they were an arm full.
Even as she came up to the door, Ballentine already saw the curious looks of her other children. It warmed her heart to see them so excited about a new face in the family. Someone had opened the door for her and she noted it was Waya. 'Why thank you... Here. Can you take one?" Laughing lightly Ballentine passed one of the babies to Waya. The legend just took it without a second thought.
Though both Waya and Ballentine didn't have a hold on them long, both siblings wiggling free of those arm cages once more and stretching out their legs. Both were timid and skittish with so many faces around, Shakina hovering close to Kito. One by one Ballentine shooed the kids away and lead the babies into her bedroom. For now they'd have to stay there, upstairs was still being renovated and she really wanted to keep an eye on them for awhile.
"Today is your day to settle in kiddos." Ballentine say as she picked both babies up to place them on her bed. "But tomorrow is another thing." Gently she scratched behind each of their ears, moving around to under their jaw. Kito's long sticky tongue slid from his mouth to pick up into his nose and Ballentine just shook her head. Gross... But ten to one Bricriu would find that fascinating. "Now... I'll go make you something to eat."
Each of the babies were tucked in, the stuffed animal put with Shakina and the rattle with Kito. Both received a kiss before Ballentine turned to leave the room, the door left open. She wouldn't make it to the kitchen before an head pushed into her bottom, Kito having managed to get off the bed and follow. This rattle was hanging from his tongue, a curious look filling his eyes. Oooh he was going to be a Mama's boy. Ballentine could already sense it!
"Now you," she started, lifting the baby up into her arms. "You should be getting a nap in, you must be tired." Though instead of taking him back to the room, she took him with her to the kitchen. He was placed down beside the counter as she moved about to get a bottle of milk from the fridge.
After warming the bottle up, it was offered to the small eager boy that would suck the bottle dry. But the warm milk was just enough to get the boy yawning once more, and Ballentine would carry him to bed once more and tuck him in. She smiled noting Shakina already fast asleep, Kito soon to follow.

Journal Entry "Home Changes"
* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *
Spring had finally arrived. It melted away all the white snow and brought with it the warm weather. Trees were beginning to fill, flowers starting to bloom, and the birds once more singing in the sunshine. But what else did Spring mean? Well a major spring cleaning of the DeMarselle household of course, and along with the cleaning came major changes.
With the addition of Colby, Kito and Shakina, the house was beyond crowded. So Ballentine took the necessary steps to take everything into her own hands. Or at least hired professionals' hands. Contractors were hired to completely renovate the upstairs which meant all the children had to camp out in the living room. It was like a slumber party every night for them, but in the week that passed each one learned to shut up and get to sleep after the 5th scream form Ballentine.
But soon enough construction was completed and the upstairs changed to allow larger rooms for the growing kids. Each one was permitted to choose the room of their liking. Though Jay found himself completely shut out of the house with the addition of his very own in the backyard. Yes Ballentine had even go so far as having a small house built for him on the property. His own little bachelor pad. He had been completely surprised when she first told him, and his gratitude never changed when it was completed.
It only took a day for the kids to get Jason moved and get themselves settled into their new rooms.

Journal Entry "Nap Time"
* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *
Subtle hints to leaver herself alone didn't seem to be clicking with her brother Kito. Shakina was being smothered by him- literally. Her twin sibling stuck to her like glue whenever and wherever they went. Sure there was something called brotherly love, but Shakina just couldn't take much more of it. What was worse, the boy actually snuck into her room during nap time! She had just begun to fall asleep and dream of the things she wanted to play when there was a flop on the bed as he joined her. Ignoring him wasn't working either thanks to his constant tossing and turning, snoring and boney knees shoved into her back every now and then. The bed was too cramped!
Scowling, Shakina turned her back to the wall, pressing all her feet against her brother. Then, in one big spurt she shoved him, right off the bed! A small smirk of pleasure came when she heard him hit the floor with a thud. Score! Kito was down for the count. Quickly she took that moment to claim the bed as her own, flipping onto her stomach to stretch out her arms and legs. This left no room for Kito!
Of course the boy had gotten up to his feet, shaking his head to clear the birds that were spinning. Next he attempted to get back onto the bed, but frowned when he realized it wasn't possible anymore. Gently he tried to nudge his sister over with his nose only to find it useless. She wasn't budging! A huff of discomfort passed his lips as he sat down upon the floor and rested his head on the edge of her bed.
By this time, Ballentine was already peeking into the room. She heard the thud and of course wanted to come and double check that whatever it was, was ok. A small smile spread across her lips as she watched her kids, only to see Shakina move her foot in a way that knocked Kito in the head. That caused her to frown and take in a better observation.
"Kito..." She whispered as she walked into the room. "What are you doing in here? Let Shakina sleep hmm?" She said as she approached the boy, reaching out to lift his head from the mattress. "Come on, lets get you to your room and you can come sleep with Mommy, ok?" She didn't wait for an answer, knowing the boy really had no idea what she was saying at his young age. Instead she gently lifted him up into her arms, his legs dangling while he placed his head onto her shoulder. Damn he was already growing so fast he was becoming an armful!
As Ballentine turned to leave the room, Kito cast one more look at the bed before he closed his eyes and snuggled into Ballentine's neck. Ok so sleeping with Mommy was just as good. Better even! The door would shut behind the two leaving Shakina in silence.
Sweet bliss. Now for that nap! But Shakina found that as she laid there and tried to fall asleep once more, that she only ended up tossing and turning. No position was comfortable! What was the point of getting her brother kicked out if she couldn't fall asleep? Flipping and flopping, tossing and turning. Nothing worked! Hesitantly Shaking got up and out of bed, grabbing her stuffed animal between her teeth as she headed out of the room. Sure she had to put it down to get the door knob, but she managed to leave and take the short trip next door to her brothers room.
She pushed the door open with her head, leaning in a bit to peek in from the doorway. She stood there, silently watching as her brother slept on one side of their mother. She could even hear his nose wheezing from the doorway, it only wheezing when he was in fact in a deep sleep. Timidly she took a step in, a small snort of hair signaling she was there and causing Ballentine to look up.
Softly Ballentine smiled at her, raising a hand and waving her in. "Come on Shakina..." She encouraged the girl. "Come on up." Room had already been saved for the girl as Ballentine had a hunch she would soon follow.
Quickly enough the girl did join them on the bed. Shakina snuggled into the other side, her stuffed animal pressed between herself and Ballentine's side. Now maybe she too would get that sleep she wanted just like her brother.
