Zenoni was lucky enough to sneek away from Mpeka for a bit, happy to be away from the lioness. Not that tending to her and her cubs wasnt the funnest job ever, but he needed a break. He waltzed causualy around the dry desert, searching for some sign of water. He came to a small oasis, and happilly laped up the water there. He stared into the glassy water at his reflection. He looked pretty good, aside from the fact he was half starved and had numerous scars. He patted the mane that was growing in with his paw, a puffy of dirty sand coming out. He took a quick look around before plummeting into the small pool of water. He splashed around a bit, a small grin spreading across his face, something that hadnt appeared in months. He got back out, and shook off, his fur already starting to dry in the heat of the sun. He padded back towards the caves, his belly lurching with hunger. He started to daydream of the life back home, when he triped over something and landed face first in the dirt. With a growl he got up and turned around to face the culprit, his eyes growing wide at the freshly killed carcus lying infront of him. Before he knew it he was face first into the meat, his belly in control over his mind.

Nuri found herself starring at the dark lion before her, eyes widening in disbeliefe as he tore into her latest kill. Nails slowly extending from their sheith, she let a low growl rumble from her chest, ears flatening as she lowered her head for a hunt.

"What do you think you are doing?" She demanded with an icy tone, eyes dark and stormy as she waited for an explination from the smaller lion in front of her. It was clear that he was a slave, and she only need a mere reason to attack, and he gave her all the reason she need.

The slave lioness stretched out her lithe form, her back arching as she eased out the fatigue from her muscles. It felt like she had been asleep for a long time but she supposed it was all the excitement the past couple of days.

A birth of a slave and the meeting of another new friend.

In fact, he was the one she was looking for as she slipped out from her small hollow that she now called 'home' and trod silently across the sand. Zezzie was the newest member of their little family here in the desert and she felt the need to assist him on becoming used to the area. She wasn't sure if anyone had explained the rules to him yet and she wanted to make sure he was okay.

She sniffed lightly, moving with a slight swagger as she moved across the uneven ground, eyes stinging from the sandy breeze that caught her in the face. It was this stray whisp of wind however that brought with it Zenoni's scent...along with another. A firekin...

The fur along her neck and shoulders stood on end and from her throat echoed a sound that was rarely heard from her. Kiburi growled.

"Zezzie!!" Her voice carried ahead of her and she hoped he heard her as she quickened to a run. Why was her heart hammering like this? Was it fear? Why did she get the feeling that somethign was wrong? She wanted to call out again but was too afraid and instead continued to run.

Slate-blue eyes searched the area, the dens, the sand and then she saw them. Zenoni and a firekin lioness who Kiburi had not yet come face to face with.

Her body ceased up and she stood as still as a statue. What should she do?

Turn back?

Or help out?

At Nuri's words, Zenoni's heart stopped. He slowly looked up from the kill into the Firekin's eyes, his maw drenched in red blood. He took a couple of steps back, his eyes widening. He wasnt sure of what was coming next, but he knew it wouldnt be good. His eyes darted around, looking for some means of escape. Instead he saw Kiburi. He stared at her, helpless. He didnt want to call out to her and draw attention to her, but he was in a tight sitution. Instead he turned back to Nuri, and kept his mouth shut.

Ear flickering, Nuri turned her eyes to the side and caught sight of another slave. Letting out a snort of disgust, she turned back towards the pridelander and lowered her ears. He seemed to realize his mistake, and it caused a slow smirk to cross her maw, for he would soon be wise to make sure no one else was around before digging into a meal like the vultures that circled the land.

"...Now..." She said slowly, her voice sharp as ice, "I usually don't bring it upon myself to teach other slaves a lesson, for all I care about is Denahi." She let that lift into the air and hover for a moment, before moving a few steps closer from where he had moved back. Paws eligantly stepping over the meat, she caught him looking around for some help, and she slowly unsheithed her claws. He would be fun to toy with, and since she had nothing better to do, it was time to toy away.

"Now, explain yourself, and I may spare you from some of the pain you are about to recieve." She was unsure how much she would punish him, it probably wouldn't even be like how she taught Denahi, but he didn't need to know that. Half the fun was scaring them when a slave was to be broken in.

Kiburi's heart almost stopped as she caught that purple-eyed gaze. She had never quite seen eyes like that and they were quite beautiful, yet at that moment in time they had looked afraid. A part of her blamed herself, she should have told him more of the rules, and now he was going to get hurt.

Well, not whilst she was here!

The petite and lanky lioness forced away her fear and for the first time in weeks she thought back to the family and what she had told them. Time to be brave! Time to prove she was strong! She drew in a breath and dashed forwards, her light form allowing her to slip between slave and Firekin shortly after Nuri's threat.

"Leave him alone!" She stunned herself with her own words and for a moment her bravery waned, her legs trembling beneath her. She was frightened, that much was obvious. "It's my fault, I-I didn't tell him all the rules. Now leave him alone." She lowered herself partially, hissing in a less than threatening way. For why would a powerful firekin be fearful of a frail servant?

Her heart hammered, her mind span and the fear that was slowly infecting her entire being showed. But she remained where she was, hoping that Zezzie would take the opportunity and run to safety.

Tears filled her eyes then and she couldn't help but wonder, was this what true bravery really was?

Zenoni stared in awe as Kiburi stood in the middle of them. Though he felt bad, he was glad the attention was drawn from him. He wanted to run, to go home more than anything in the world. But for some reason, his legs were glued to the ugly dry sand, forcing him to stay by Kiburi's side. His eyes grazed over Kiburi's thin frame, her soft sandy coat blending in nicely with the surroundings, but her vibrant blue eyes sticking out ungraciously. They were the only source of kindness he had found in this land. They reminded him of home. He didnt want Kiburi to get beaten because of his mistake, and although he didnt want to, he knew he had to. "Kiburi no." He wispered. "You'll get hurt."

At the sight of the other lioness moving in front of her, and she felt her lips split to reveal well-worked fangs. The gleam of the yellowed ivory would be enough to send any weakling cowering in a corner, and as her growl grew, her shoulders shift as she worked into the offensive possition.

"Quiet!" She grounded out, not in the mood to hear the female's pleas, "If you were taught anything, it is to keep your maw shut." Sure she was being harsh, but than again, she was a firekin, and in a rotten mood as it was.

As soon as Zenoni had spoken up, she moved quickly around to his side and sent a glare that could kill if it were able to, "And you, I believe I have decided what to do with an ungreatful servent such as yourself."

Apparently Kiburi had a stubborn streak and though she was terrified of the huge lioness she knew she had to protect her friend. He and Kirjava were all she had in this place and she didn't want anything to happen to them. The Firekin would never understand what the other slaves meant to her, never.

She turned her body with Nuri, watching her every move and trying desperately to figure out what to do. She had never been in a fight before and she had no idea what to do. Besides, fighting this lioness would be a fatal decision. The tears that had gathered in her eyes welled to the very brim, wavering there as she tried to figure out what to do.

She had only put herself between them and Zenoni wouldn't be harmed, right? She darted forwards once more and moved back a little so she was pressed against the violet-eyed male, a whimper rolling from her throat. Would he leave now? Would he run and find safety?

And where she had lost her voice before she regained it now.

"I may be a servant but that does not make me any less of a lion. I was born the same as you were and I will protect Zenoni the way you would protect a loved one. We servants are of the same species, don't you forget that."

A part of her mind was screaming at her to shut up and walk away and most of her wanted to follow those orders. She was terrifed and in her heart she knew she might not get away with this, she just hoped that her status as Kimeti's personal slave would allow her to live through this. She had so much yet to do, but the highest thing on her list was to fulfill her promise to her parents and Mchele: she had to return to them.

"Now please, just leave my friend alone!" It was like another part of her talking, the anger inside of her that had been welling up since she had gotten here. It felt strange to feel like this when she was normally so passive and calm and it was frigtening within itself.

Her tail had curled around her hind leg and her ears flattened and though she spoke tough her posture was of complete submission.

[[Kiburi looks awsome! ;D and sorry im a little late, been super busy with school work D=]]

Zenoni's ears flattened against his head. The taste in his mouth had gone from delicious to fowl, and he swallowed hard trying to rid himself of the guilty feeling. His head kept twisting back and fourth staring between the two females, feeling helpless. He wanted to cry out to Kiburi, stop her from acting on his account. It was his fault they were in this mess, if he had just kept his stupid mouth closed, they wouldnt be in this situation. He stared hard a Kiburi. She was small, and looked delicate, but she was strong and brave inside, and Zenoni owed alot to her. She had saved him, taken care of him. She was amazing. And now he had gotten her in trouble, and both of them would be punished for it. He hung his head in shame, a fluff of his short mane covering his eyes.

Eyes boring down into the smaller form of Kiburi, Nuri felt her paitence snap. Never had she met someone so difficult, and she realized dimly that the lioness had yet to be taught the obediance lions should obtain. With the mix of the heat, the loss of her hard earned catch, and the annoyance of listening to the slave speak as if Nuri was lower in status, the lioness let out a deep growl and finally raised her paw.

Pulling her paw back, the claws extended with deadly swiftness, and she watched as Kiburi curled her tail, "I told you to keep silent, slave." With that deadly hiss left in the air, Nuri slammed her paw across the female's maw, pushing her easily out of the way before turning her eyes onto Zenoni's form.

"May I teach you as well, or will you learn from her mistake?" Her tone was full of steel, yet if one looked deep into her eyes, they could make out the tired glow that showed Nuri was not enjoying what was demanded from her that day.

(( Thanks Doomi! And that's okay! Both of yah have been busy and that's understandable. *luffs upon* ))

Blood....BLOOD?!

It was like an explosion had gone off in her head and as she lay on the ground completely stunned she heard nothing but a strange fuzzy sound as if she were underwater.

She could feel the hot, crimson liquid sliding down into her mouth, the metallic taste causing her to cringe. Yet most of all she could feel the terrible physical pain that accompanied the blood. Never had she been struck before and now she knew how it felt.

Dust and dirt mingled with the blood in her mouth and as she turned her head round to face Zezzie and Nuri she looked suddenly brutish. Two thick claw marks now marred the right side of her muzzle, which had splattered blood across her face. The red was stark against her pale peach fur and the strenge gleam in her eyes made her seem almost demonic.

She saw Nuri's mouth moving as she spoke words to the purple-eyed male but could not hear them. All she knew was that it couldn't be good.

She would not fail him. She could not!

Zenoni was the only friend she had in this miserable place and she was responsible for his safety - or so she thought. She growled without even realising it, anger swelling within her so that she momentarily forgot her pain.

She gathered her rage and harnessed it and as she dragged herself to her paws she knew she had to do something. She had to protect those she loved and as far as she was concerned her health no longer mattered.

At that moment her hearing returned, allowing herself to hear her own growl and the bark of her words as they peirced the air. "Zezzie RUN!" Then with a movement she had watched her mother do when hunting gazelle, Kiburi leapt towards the dark crimson femme. It was probably a wasted effort but the little pridelander was willing to do anything that might distract the larger and stronger lioness.

It was possible she was leaping towards further injury, or death...but either way it would be worth it if Zenoni was okay.

"Kiburi!" Zenoni shreaked as the lioness hit her. He ran to her, examining her wounds. "Kiburi are you ok?" Zenoni stared at the crimson blood that driped off her cheek and quickly disolved into the burning sand. Why was she doing this? Why was she sacrificeing herself for him? It was wrong. He had done nothing to deserve it. As Kiburi growled, he froze, staring at her, stunned. She had changed, became wild looking, and it was suprising him. "Kiburi, no please. Dont, its not worth it." He pleaded. But as she called out to him and sprung forward, he knew it was too late. He obeyed her words, even though it killed him inside. He ran, tears welling up in the corners of his eyes, afraid to look back.

"What the hell?" Nuri hissed suddenly, eyes widening in surprise as Kiburi got up once more, "Is she begging to die?" Lowering her shoulders, her bloody claws staied extended as the slave showed a direct attack aimed right at the Firekin. Hissing, she noted Zenoni was running, but by then it was too late. Kiburi had already sealed her fate, and Nuri would not let her get easily away from this choice.

"That is it!" With that final, angry cry, the lioness jumped and slamed down upon Kiburi, the larger female pushing the smaller one into the sands. With a dark smirk, she took her left paw and dug it into Kiburi's shoulder, taking her time. Pulling it slowly down, dark red orbs peered icily at the slave.

"You are a slave, and slaves are ment to follow the rules. Not only will you bare the marks of your disobedience, but your master will forever know you to be unfaithful, for you have attacked a member of the blood." With that, she took all of her weight into her paw to dig deeper before pulling back up and creating four deep lines. Scars would forever maw the shoulder, and pain would take weeks to heal as the sands and heat would infect the wound.

Pushing off, Nuri lifted a paw to lick the blood clean, before turning her head and walking away.

"Next time you try and attack me..." She called over her shoulder, "...I will kill you." And with that, she was gone.

Her wail of pain tore from her parted maw as she lay trembling beneath Nuri's ebony claws. Her life's blood slowly left her body and her eyes seemed to lose focus as the pain consumed her.

Was this what it was like to die?

Her vision blurred and suddenly the red lioness was walking away, leaving the frail and wounded slave to bleed on the sand beneath the rays of the sun.

She coughed once, sides trembling as she fought to breath, keeping consciousness long enough to think of Zenoni. She spoke his name as a weakened croak and then everything faded to black.

The world had gone dark.
