[I read in my local newspaper recently that they [cloning/breeding facilities and laboratories] have been cloning horses. Clones being born recently are mostly of cutting, barrel-racing and dressage horses, I believe. The sires are supposedly the creme of the crop in their equestrian fields and have won and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
What is your opinion on cloning for commercial purposes??
Does it give some breeders an unfair advantage?
We probably won't know if there are any adverse effects for a few years, since the owners of horses that were quoted in the article say that the clones will likely be used for breeding only; they won't be trained as cutting horses themselves. So until these foals are old enough to reproduce and those offspring are born, we won't know if we've made a breakthrough or a mistake.
I think those in-the-know have already decided the development is worth the risk and thus will likely yield favorable results.
The Humane Society is against commercial cloning....
Do you think it's wrong??]

[Personally, I don't really have a problem with commercial cloning. Is there really a difference between that and cloning in an effort to "get rid of" certain diseases/ailments/weaknesses/deficiencies? I don't think so. The horse breeders have bred great cutting horses and they want to keep that greatness going. If it were possible to "breed" humans to be the best we could be physically, we'd do it, so why not horses?]

I think its good to clone for medical purposes, Such as if you need a limb or an organ. but I think its a waist of time and money to clone for something as stupid as that. why have a perfect human or a horse or a rat or whatever? thats what livings about, bettering yourself.

[The name of the movie is "The Island." It came out in 2005 I think. The movie focuses on the lives of clones. The original people are cloned because they need a new organ, etc. But the ones who are the clones have no idea that they are clones and that they will later be killed so that their organs can be used to save the original people. Make sense? You should watch the movie. It kind of makes you think twice about how "good" it would be to clone people to save lives... 3nodding ]

Hey, I saw the Island just last week. I only got halfway through, though. ;_;
Ne, I don't think they should mess with cloning. Just keep doing things the natural way, instead of giving rich people an advantage. That's really all it is.

[Long time no see, Pentium. xd Hope I didn't ruin the movie for ya.
Anyway, I do agree with you--it would definitely give people with more money an advantage over people who can't afford to clone themselves. But it's like that already, to a point. Rich people can afford the medicines and research and medical proceedures to save their lives, while poor people around the world aren't able to receive that life-saving care.
Damn...I sound like a "Feed the Children" info-mercial. xd I bet someone's out there waiting for me to say, "and for only one dollar a day, YOU can feed little Ming and his whole village for 3 years and also provide medical care and fund a school!" rolleyes xp ]
