Chana smiled. The fur on her face covered the blotchy red spots left by the tears. "Thanks Lauren." She wasn't going to disillusion the girl about the likelihood of the mad Moreau caring about a single person. If it helped the yellow-furred girl sleep better at night, why not.
She smiled again and waved goodbye as she gently shut the door behind her. Then she collapsed against it.
"Every single time," she moaned. The beaver girl was starting to think it might be best to just stay in her duplex and not leave. Bad things always seemed to happen when she left.

Lauren waved back at Chana as she went into her duplex, sighing relief as she left.
It felt rewarding but being so polite and helpful was just draining at times. The mongoose demanded more friends, things were safer in numbers. At least there was less of a chance you would be singled out and eaten. And who else would help you build burrows but your friends?
Not that she needed a burrow, but this thought did give her a huge urge to go out and dig. Lauren shrugged it off, venturing back into the jungle yet again.
