((for September RP Games: Color Shift Month))
“Ugh, it is SOOOO hot.” Lantana said to herself as she lay on her side within some grass. She had hoped that the cooler weather would be continuing for longer than it had been but she felt like she had gotten some bad luck when it went back to being hot again after such a short time.
She let out a grunt as she rolled over onto her stomach. Sure, she had complained about the cold weather as it had come in, not because it was cold but that it had been such a large change that it was hard to get used to at first. But she DID get used to it! But noooo, apparently her complaints had been heard too late and now she had been cursed with the warm weather again. She could only be thankful that it wasn’t as hot as before, but the humidity seemed to weigh her down.
She liked the heat, most of her body only absorbed a little of it so she was nice and warm where it counted, her hooves were nicely warmed up and her neck and nose got even more heat. But her body, being such a yellow color, allowed her to feel cooler. The heat had even gone down a bit when the leaves started to turn and night crept in more and more quickly. So it was both a blessing and a curse to have hotter or colder weather. Now the problem was the colder weather was settling in at night and then it was too hot and humid during the day to do anything.
She really had to change her plans now and moved more in the morning and the afternoon when the sun was rising and when it was setting. She had planned to stay in the plains longer and explore more of it, she loved exploring and seeing new places, but now her sights had to change and she was now making her way to a nearby forest. It wouldn’t be as hot and perhaps not as cold as the plains were and she was more likely to find some covering shelter there as opposed to attempting to use grass as some sort of shade.
The nice part was that the bugs had become fewer, so she was not having to swat as many flies or mosquitoes away from her. But due to the effects of the heat during the day, she was making very little progress where she wanted to go and it was starting to get on her nerves. Which is why she was now taking rest in the tall grass with no shade.
The second reason she had wanted to go to the forest was to collect flowers for selling again. They were starting to go away much more quickly in the plains and with the shade and possible temperature difference in the forest she thought she might be able find more in there.
The problem was just getting there. She really should have taken Aolis up on his suggestion for her to travel with them but of course she didn’t. She was as stubborn as her horn was sharp and how little she was. And perhaps she wanted to prove to herself that she would be able to make it on her own. After all she had been exploring all over before, so why would this time be any different?
She just wished that the humidity didn’t weigh down so much on her! She snorted as she finally got back up on her hooves. Even if she didn’t want to be traveling much during the day, she couldn’t just stay out here in the open. Or as open as it was, at least if there was anything from above that wanted to grab her they would be able to get her. Her short stature did give her some advantage of not being seen in the grass to others who were on the ground. She still made a very pronounced pocket of bent grass however so if someone looked closely they would be able to tell something was in the area, and then they might want to investigate and she would have to use her horn to-!
She groaned. Even thinking about using that much energy, even to defend herself was too much for her right now. Maybe she could find some sort of rock to lie next to in this area? As much as she was unwilling to, she started to move one hoof in front of the other, continuing to move forward in her quest to find the forest.
