DEDICATED Malcolm puts his whole heart into everything he does. Whether it’s at work or in his personal life, Malcolm gives it his all. He is persistent, focused, and unafraid of hard work. HUMBLE Malcolm doesn’t consider himself to be better or more talented than anyone else. He knows he is talented, but also believes everyone could be just as capable if they put their minds to it. EARLY CHILDHOODMalcolm Cormac McKinnon was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. He was the only child of Cormac and Lydia McKinnon. Lydia was a witch, while Cormac was a muggle. Even from early on in his life, he knew his parents had problems. They tried to stay together for him, but he was well aware of the tension between them. He had his theories, it had to do with magic, but he never really found out for sure. When he was seven, the two divorced. It was almost a relief for Malcolm as the two both seemed far happier after. He spent most of the time living with his mother, but would visit his father on some weekends and on an occasional holiday.
A few years later, he got his Hogwarts letter. He was thrilled to be able to go and learn magic, and admittedly, also somewhat thrilled to get completely away from his parents.
SCHOOL YEARS Starting at Hogwarts was even better than he anticipated. The whole place was…well, magical. He entered the sorting, positive he’d be sorted into Ravenclaw as most of his family had been, but his, and ultimately his family’s, surprise, he was sorted into Hufflepuff. He thought it was a bit strange at first, but as the years progressed he realized it was the perfect fit for him.
Things started to change in his life around his third year. He learned his mother had begun dating one of her coworkers at the Ministry, Lucien Spencer, who happened to be the father of one of Malcolm’s classmates; Simon Spencer, a Gryffindor in his same year. It was awkward. The two didn’t dislike each other per se, but they definitely weren’t friends either. Simon was sort of a cliche jock, and Malcolm absolutely was not. He didn’t dare go near a broom beyond what was required in class. They were civil to one another but that was about it.
Aside from that, Malcolm excelled in school and soon came to gain an interest in healing magic. He was naturally good at it and helped in the Hospital Wing whenever he had a chance. Even helped Simon with a broken leg after a particularly nasty quidditch game.
Over the Easter holiday in Malcolm’s fifth year, Lucien and Lydia were married, officially making Simon his step-brother. Luckily the house the family moved to was plenty large to accommodate all of them and the boys could have their own space. Though, their relationship never really grew beyond casual friendliness.
POST-GRADUATION Malcolm finished up school and was immediately hired at St. Mungo’s to be a Healer-in-training. As cheesy as it sounded, it made him feel complete.
Unfortunately, his personal life wasn’t quite so good. A few years after graduation, just as he was becoming a full-fledged healer, he found out that his father had been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. Malcolm was devastated, knowing full well what would happen to his father, and even magic hadn’t found a cure for it. He moved in with his father to take care of him when he wasn’t working. It was painful to watch someone he loved succumb to something like that, but all Malcolm could do was make him comfortable and keep about his own life. Healing people at work at least gave him a bit of reprieve.
Only two years later, his father passed. In some ways, it was a blessing, since Cormac really hadn’t been himself for a while. After that, things fell into a pattern as much as they could. His mother and step-father moved to Portugal of all places, his step-father teaching at a magic school and his mother began working for their Ministry. Then the biggest change of all came. Simon and his wife Isabelle, childhood sweethearts, were killed in a car accident, leaving their eight-year-old daughter Lily, orphaned. Then, to Malcolm’s shock, he was told Simon and Isabelle had named him to become Lily’s guardian if anything were to happen to them. After his and Simon’s less than close relationship, he was surprised he was trusted with that. He of course accepted and took over responsibility for Lily. It was a rough beginning as Lily was so young, trying to process all that grief.
He moved from his flat and into a house large enough for the two of them. He tried his best, but Lily rarely even spoke to him. He loved the girl, but work once again became his reprieve from the struggles at home, though he made sure she never knew just how much he was struggling. Luckily, it was only a few years until Lily began Hogwarts herself. Slowly, year to year, he could see the good it did for her. She made friends and eventually started coming out of her shell and really process all that had happened to her. During the summers, Malcolm finally felt like he was able to build a relationship with her. Now that she’s starting her seventh year, he finally feels as much like a father to her as he’s able to and she seems to have developed a genuine love and trust for him.

QUIET Lily tends to keep to herself. She doesn’t want people pitying her or asking questions so she avoids people the best she can. She has a few friends but even with them she rarely talks and even more rarely shares anything about herself. She’s much happier to be left alone in her room with a book. DELIBERATE Lily does not like anything that isn’t planned. She isn’t the type of person to be spontaneous or change plans if she can help it. She’s committed to being on time and keeping things on time and organized as possible. Any work she does is done with a strategy. EMPATHETIC Despite Lily's reserved nature it is very easy for her to see other's feelings. She has a deep compassion for others, even if she doesn't always show it. She's very sensitive to what upsets others. MELANCHOLY Lily can come across as very serious. She has a hard time showing when she's happy. She closely guards her emotions and tries to keep people at arm's length. She finds it difficult to let go of things that have happened to her in the past. She's always waiting for something else to go wrong. LOYAL When she allows herself to connect with other people, Lily tends to stay by their side. It isn't in her to betray someone else in any capacity. Sometimes she finds it hard to make new friends because she doesn't want to risk hurting those she's already close to. EARLY CHILDHOODLily Spencer was born in Plymouth, England to Simon and Isabelle Spencer. She had a fairly normal life, for a wizard anyway. The first several years of her life were perfectly happy. Lily never had any doubt that she was loved and she was always well cared for. However, when she was eight years old, things changed. It was snowy, and Lily was spending the day at a friend's house, enjoying the rare snowfall. It was there that she received word that her parents had been killed in a car accident. Upon hearing the news she lost control, shattering several vases in the home with unrestrained magic.
Things continued to change and Lily felt that she had completely lost control of her life. She was sent to live with her father’s step-brother Malcolm. The two brothers had never been close so Lily had only met him once, but he was the only family she had left. There was nothing wrong with Malcolm, but Lily had no desire to put forth any effort to build a relationship with him. The two moved and Lily started at a new primary school.
When Lily finally received her Hogwarts letter it was the happiest she’d been in a long time. She’d been counting down the days since she was old enough to know what Hogwarts was. Plus, it finally gave her a chance at something new.
SCHOOL YEARS ■ FIRST YEAR Lily came to Hogwarts and was sorted into Ravenclaw. Though she still mostly kept to herself she did manage to make at least one friend, Xeno Knapp. She became one of the few people Lily would talk openly with.
■ SECOND YEAR Coming into her second year Lily was starting to feel a bit more confident in herself. She went as far as to join the quidditch team and join several more clubs. She even made a few more friends in the process.
■ THIRD YEAR Coming into her third year, Lily felt that she was finally learning to deal with the death of her parents, at least a little. She wasn’t magically cured or anything she’d just noticed that things were easier to deal with. She was happy to spend time with friends and was especially comfortable being back at Hogwarts. A lot of her year was spent reassuring Xeno after her prophecy at the Astronomy Club. Though Lily had never actually figured out what any of it had meant, it seemed Xeno did, or at least she stopped being so fixated on it. ■ FOURTH YEAR Things were overall pretty quiet Lily's fourth year except for the fact that she had somehow been made Vice Captain of the quidditch team, which came as a complete shock to her. ■ FIFTH YEAR Lily's fifth year felt constantly busy. She was now Ravenclaw prefect, doing her quidditch duties, and trying to keep on top of all her OWL level work. She didn't mind it really; she preferred to keep her brain busy, but that didn't mean it wasn't a lot. ■ SIXTH YEAR Lily started the year, immediately anxious about quidditch. Being the Captain was way out of her comfort zone, and with Lewis she wasn’t sure they could do it. Unfortunately, she was correct as Ravenclaw came in last. She didn’t want her whole year to be brought down by her feelings about quidditch, but unfortunately, it kind of did. She, of course, saw to her prefect duties, but not much aside from that.
