The Clans of the Dwarves
The Dvergr have 4 clans, with different tasks, led by 3 Patriarchs and 1 Matriarch. Although some ranks are divided amongst clans some are exclusive, with 1 special rank they manage. These are listed with the clans!
At large the 4 clans follow the Dwarven King and Queen and any consorts on top - they don't judge number of partners.
Although all but one clan is Patriarchal, this does not mean females are helpless. Females are powerful and formidable, just as males. Some even leave as adventurers or mine. Men just dominate due to the cultural view of men as more in charge outside the pride, so it is males that present as rulers.
Do not anger Dwarven womenfolk.
Do not. Each clan is identified by pelt. Colors all clans possess are gold, black, and white, however gold is an accent only
, or it falls into it's traditional clan.
Clan Durin
Special Role: King; Historian
Pelt Colors: Earthenstones, naturals. Muted as well - desaturated like stone, bar the frequent golden accents of a proper son of Durin.
Clan Durin boasts the royal line, and the oldest blood. As such they keep the history of the pride, in song and ballad, chant and word. Clan Durin is ancient, the founding clan. They are often wizened and it it always the clan of the King, for the king is said to be descent of the first dwarf, said to be named Durin, and is celebrated on Durin's Day one time a year., Clan Durin afford the most lions willing to aid newcomers and surprisingly, for old traditional lions, are welcoming and quick to celeb rate and show warmth. The eldest in-clan know many secrets, such as of Clan Surtr, a brother clan.
Clan Surtr
Special Role: Forgewarden
Pelt Colors: Flames! Bright colors! TLK Lions!
Clan Surtr are the sons of Durin whom dedicated themselves to minding the Forge. They spare the least to other tasks and instead warden over Ngorogoro Forge, watching her and the volcano herself for signs of eruption. As the Dwarves know well the dangers of their Forge, the clan minds her with fervor and at any sign she MIGHT cry out and blow, they clear the pride out to a safe distance. It is said 100 years ago, the Forge erupted and many almost died were it not for Clan Surtr's timely cries to flee. Similarly, they allowed the pride to walk the fire rivers, to use them to forge. When it is safe in Dvergrheim, they also escort pride members or visitors through the Forge, a required rule for pride member protection.
Clan Freyja
Special Role: Caregiver
Pelt Colors: Any
Clan Frayja is Matriarchal. A new came When disease took the old clans Freyja and Jalokivi replaced, the pride wanted for much. And so, Freyha, a clan dominated by powerful dwarven women, came forward. All males in the clan do one job and one job alone. Tend to the domestic needs of the pride. To let all women stand with males, Freyja's males do the healing and cub tending as Caregivers. Experts at this task, Freyja males are often protected and hidden from visitors, as the Dvergr falsely believe males run most prides, unaware females can do that in other prides too. This job is actually seen favorably - Caregivers keep many herbology and cub rearing secrets, and, more importantly, caregivers tend to any wayward cubs they find.
Clan Jaklokivi
Special Role: Trader
Pelt Colors: Gemstones/Unnatural! Rainbows! Anything not FIRE.
The second new blood clan is very young, Jalokivio lions are all those colored as gems. Because they pop out, they don't hunt often, but do excel in mining, crafting, and... Trade! Jalokivi lions are encouraged to take a companion and Dwarven crafts out into the world to barter them for harder to get items - pelts and bones are especially sought after.
Clan RelationsAlthough different, all Dwarves actually get on well. Dwarves see their own as brothers and sisters and the clans lie in relative peace. When mating, seeking mates in other clans is allowed, as if a clan must be changed the female will join her husband's clan if she possesses a moderate enough pelt between clans, or, both lions will join Freyja, or, they will remain in their clans. Clans get on quite well, and interclan disputes are handled by the patriarchs or matriarch and the King. Treasure is shared and clan space is largely for privacy. Dwarves long for their other clan, as the pride is one large "kingdom" - the clans serve to supply aid and specialization, not division and pain. Similarly, any clan has the balance of providing a
Queen whom is responsible for balancing her King. And a King may take a queen of each clan.
The pride is brothers and sisters - and new clans may emerge is the pride demands.
