The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn't be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it's incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it's just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there's something undeniably magical about it.
"Whoa!"
Harvey leaned over the steering wheel, mindful of the horn but still wanting to get a view of the night sky. A streak of light across the sky caught his eyes just as he pulled into the driveway of their home, and it was a knee-jerk reaction to try and get a better look at something in the sky while he was in the car. He steadied himself, breath caught in his throat as he waited until a second, and third streak went by in quick succession.
"Hey, did you see that?" he asked, pink eyes particularly bright and full of excitement when he turned to look at Mel. "Could be a meteor shower! Seems to happen every summer around here," which...well. If it was one of those "summer in DC" things, it was easily a forgivable one.
He turned to face the windshield again, gazing skyward as more streaks of white and yellow flew past. Only once there was a pause in the stream of light did he clamber out of the car, quickly moving to Mel's side and taking her hand.
"Since the sky's finally clear after all that rain," he said, bringing her hand to his lips and pausing to kiss the back of it. "Any chance you're up for a walk? We can go to the nearby park to watch the shower, then maybe walk a bit more to that pizza spot you like for some dinner?"
He kissed the back of her hand once more, lips hidden behind their joined hands but the smile reaching his eyes. It was the happiest he'd looked, and felt, in a while.
"What do you think?"
